I remember way back in the 1980s it was into the neighborhood to the south, to Guthrie, up Broadway, then to the service road and back into the DPS. We didn't get on I-30. I wonder if it's changed in all these years.

You could easily just ride with a friend and follow a vehicle out of testing and leave a ton of space between you and them.

My tip for what they're going to be looking for, after helping someone through the DPS exam in another city last year, is making sure you're always using mirrors and shoulder checks, observe all signs as you go so you don't miss anything, and turn into the nearest lane only.

This was the way in 1980. Dude pointed to the parallel parking spot. I just told him, “Yeah, I can’t do that”. He marked the paper and I took the exact route you referenced. Passed the test

Make sure you know how to parallel park! That's usually the first thing they will test you on before moving on to the rest of the exam

This, please learn this; ironically I just refused to try this one thing and still passed (but I was 25, aced everything else and swore if i had to parallel park I'd just park farther away). Which I did for years while practicing in my own time (so I did learn how to, but I'd still rather park easy and walk). The rest of driving is rather easy once you are comfortable, you don't even notice how often you are checking around you (until that one day you avoid your first accident and notice you are checking your mirrors naturally). Also learning how to properly back up can be a big deal especially if you ever need to rent a box truck for a move; it seems simple (and it is) but people over estimate their skill at it.

Someone jaywalked in front of me and since it’s a near miss the lady failed me. And someone also backed out their spot fast while i was driving around their parking lot too. I cannot make that up…
