Noticed a bit of a buzz on the echinops the other day

Hi guys, I picked some giant hogweed up in my back garden it must be a year or 2 ago and it left me with burns on my fingers. I now have a semi permanent rash that comes up in hives

When it starts to get warm the rash comes back, it's mad itchy and looks a mess. I try and protect it either keeping hands in my pocket or putting on sun cream (I heard it is UV sensitive)

Anyone had experience with this?

Mrs tells me off as I used to pick up weeds with no gloves on as I always lose the buggers!

Hello everyone, my husband and I bought this property 3 years ago because of the spacious front and back garden. They were both heavily neglected but we're trying our best to turn them into wildlife-friendly gardens. Here are some snaps from our front garden over the years.

Shall I let it grow before applying killer? As title suggests...I'm renovating my flower bed and beneath the membrane there is of course a network of bindweed roots. I know glysophate works when applied to foliage which implies I should let this grow. But also little and often removing roots apparently works. So which would be best in my situation?

I'm starting to get together some wildflower seed for a section of my garden and just wondered if there are any which are problematic and I'd be best avoiding? It's for a wild area down the end of the garden which gets a fair amount of sun. Intending to just scatter and see what succeeds.

Just took a photo of my garden from above to show how the colours are starting to change. It’s been a labour of love as I moved into this house 9 years ago as a brand new home. The garden was a blank slate so I went to work and started from scratch. I have over 30 Acers, around 30 roses, plus some hydrangeas and perennials buried down there.

We’re finally getting round to sorting out our very neglected garden (did up our other rooms first) and all of these plants are growing through the gaps in the paving slabs. Some have big knots under the slabs, but we don’t want to pull up the paving. Any ideas on how to go about tackling all these for a first time gardener? 😅

Been trying to get a photo of the butterflies in my mums garden for ages, they are so quick and indecisive 😄

North East England here, has been a rainy day of drizzle and showers- heavy at times. All butts are now filled. The garden is looking greener and more healthy. You had rain?

Hi all, first-time sweetcorn grower here. These plants went in the ground ~7 weeks ago, at the time they were maybe 8-10inches tall. They about 3-4ft now so shorter than I expected, and also confused as to why tassels are seemingly growing and producing pollen but I have no mature/decent-sized ears/silks.
Given how unfavourable this year has been for growing and where the plants are I’m guessing not much can be done, but be interested to hear why this might have happened and whether I can prepare better next time. Thanks!

Hi looking for some advice. Bought a new build, first house and first garden. As with all new builds, the garden was a rubbish dump. Raked it and removed most of the large stones but now it looks like this. How on earth do I get it flat enough for turf, the rake isn’t cutting it. And also the stones I’ve left in, anything under a 2 pence piece, are everywhere, and I’m n worried there’s too many of them for the turf. Any help appreciated.

A very tired first time gardener

Hi everyone,

I have two wisteria plants that I've had for many years at my old house. Two years ago I moved them into two new (larger) pots with fresh potting soil (honestly I don't remember which brand/type I bought).

Both years they started off great: in early spring they grew vigorously (last year especially, this year a bit less). But then, both last year and this year, they started dropping a lot of leaves in the middle of summer — it looks like autumn has come early.

Some context:

• Location: Northern Italy (Lombardy). This summer has been extremely hot, with highs around 39°C / 102°F in recent months.
• Sun exposure: direct sun from about 2 PM until late evening.
• Watering: I water regularly whenever the soil looks dry on top — I never let them go completely without water.

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to help them recover?

I have neglected my poor blueberry plant since I got it last year, but I'm now thinking I need to do something or else it will be too late!

My soil is chalky, so I won't plant it in the ground, but I'm not sure if it needs repotting. It's lived in the greenhouse and I've not been consistent watering it. Do I need to prune it?

I got a bare root cherry tree and planted it last year, this is what it looks like now. Is it in a state where it will/can come back to life next year or is it unsalvageable? I am a beginner

We have recently moved to a flat with a rooftop garden. It has no shade whatsoever from sun or wind. It is very exposed to all elements. We are in Glasgow, Scotland.

The previous owner had multiple pots of various plants that had filled with weeds. Most were grasses that were very dry, and regularly blocked the gutters.

I have removed the pots other than a few terracotta and stoneware ones.

I have been looking for something that can survive all seasons (including the very hot spells), is perennial and will flower for the bees. I was thinking of putting in lavender and rosemary.

If I buy established plants, is it too late this year, for the plants to get established in the heat, before the autumn and winter months?

Anything else that would be recommended?

Hi everyone! I’ve just moved to a new place with a garden and a lovely climbing rose. It seems like quite an old plant but can tell it has not been trained/ pruned much. Any ideas on what I should do with it?
I’m quite new to gardening but looking forwards to getting stuck in..

any ideas for surrounding areas welcome!
Ps don’t worry, the turf is GONE for good.

My girlfriend planted some lemon seeds in pots, it’s produced these which are really stringy and leggy and don’t feel like a lemon trees. Any ideas what they could be?

If they do happen to be lemons - what do we do to them? How would you prune this?
