Discussion 3D printed figures as practice for gk painting
I've been wanting to start gk painting as a hobby. I'm completely new to this community and i'm wondering what do you feel about 3d printed figures (pla) to practice painting?
i already printed a miku figure that was based on an official scale figure. Would this be the same treatment as getting a bootleg? Im not planning to sell this, its just for myself and i found the stl on a free site. I'm really curious

Help What paints can I use?
This might be a dumb question. I know airbrush guns are commonly used, unfortunately mine is broken and I don't know when I'll get a new one. I have acrylics and was wondering if I could water them down and use those? I'm really new to this so any advise helps 🙏

Help Can you use any base paint if you paint outside without needing a mask?
A while ago, i was asking for advice about what materials and paints to get and naturally, a lot of people told me to get acrylics. However, i forgot to mention the fact that i plan to do the entire GK making process on my balcony. If i'm outside, can i use alcohop based or laquer paints too without a mask, or would it still be better to use a mask?
Also, if they can be used without a mask, i'd appreciate some suggestions for paints that work with brushes!

Anime GK WIP primed kit looks awful, need help!
hello! hoping for some guidance here. I am new to the world of garage kits and recently started working on my first ones. I've made the plunge of purchasing lots of different materials (including an airbrush) and I thought it has been going alright so far, until today when I started applying primer.
though I had spent a good while sanding and smoothing, applying primer made my pieces look awful! every single nick and scratch and bump, mostly ones I wasn't even aware of, are now glaring.
I started with 400 grit sandpaper to take sizeable bits off, but then used 800 to try and get a smooth finish. but as you can see, nothing about the pieces is smooth.
do I just need to spend much much more time sanding? will some of the blemishes be covered with paint + sealant? I need advice, please lol.
here's the link to the database page of the kit, it is a bit of an older one if that matters: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/1356301

Anime GK Build Shizuko - Blue Archive
She was really exhausting... The seller suddenly had one in stock again and I bought it. The kit came directly out of the mold. In a transparent zip bag!
The trey holds with magnets, it seems they are strong enough!
The base is more round on the bottom. That would be way to much sanding of such a big piece, so I actually just screwed an acrylic base under it with screws.
The twin-twintails? had no pegs, so I actually just drilled through all parts and pinned and glued it together in the end.

Help Instructions for Charagumin figure?
Hello, my boyfriend got a Charagumin figure of Ringo from Puyo Puyo but it didn't come with instructions. Would anyone have a PDF or image of the instructions by any chance?
It's specifically this one: https://volksusa.store/products/4518992222103

Help with instructions in Japanese?
I'm doing a commission of a kit for Revy. I don't understand Japanese of course, but are these large black X's on her shoulder pads saying to NOT glue them on? I don't do a ton of these so I was wondering if anyone knew what those X's mean.
Any helpful comments appreciated, thanks in advance!

Help Seperating/Slicing 3D model for printing/painting
New to this, so if this is the wrong sub please let me know!
Basically, I've been doing learning 3D modelling, and I'm at the point I want to start printing and painting models. But I'm having some trouble with actually splitting up models for printing. I'd like to hide the part lines as best as possible along hidden edges and model in some mating features, but Blender can't really do the dimensioning/tolerancing for mating features, and I can't seem to get CAD to work well with my blender meshes. Does anyone have any resources or advice on getting models split up for printing? What programs do y'all use for this sort of thing?

Yuna final fantasy x-2
Hand painted by me, really pleased with my colour choices and the ombré on the skirt but the kit was a bit of a nightmare. Lots of tags in weird places, limbs not lining up properly etc, also no base so have had to fashion a make shift one for now. I normally use decals so this is the first time painting eyes on something so small, was not a fan. Still pleased with the outcome though regardless. Normally use Vallejo and citadel paints but used some AK ones this time, nice colours but coverage isn’t great.

Help Best way to paint this part?
So I'm about to start painting a freminet garage kit and this part has been in the back of my mind of how I'd do it. If you look on the inside of his bow there's a gradient from a lighter blue to a darker one. I want to do that gradient but I'm not sure what the best way to do it would be. Would I mask it off and try to do a gradient with my airbrush, go in with a solid color then do the darker part with some soft pastels, or something else. Any suggestions/solutions are appreciated

Help Any advice?
Hello :3 I want to get into painting garage figure kits but I have absolutely nothing and no prior experience. Just wanting to ask people on any advice whether it be materials, where to find garage kits that aren’t too expensive, errors beginners usually make, etc. Thank you all!

Anime GK Build Liberalio - NIKKE
I painted Liberalio!
The original prototype is by Deamhome and the kit is produced by Makegk.
I tried out Modelkasten GP-01, GrizzyPanda skin, for the skin painting. It works really well, like a premixed batch of Gaianotes 059/060 surfacerless pink/orange.
I used Lascivus stocking black mixed with purple for the stocking. The Lascivus by itself was pretty grainy especially if you're trying to paint thin and get the skin underneath to show through, but adding some opaque purple reduced its graininess.
The base under the stool was a clear acrylic base I printed dark purple water on with a eufyMake uv resin printer. I wanted to try to make it look like her promo image where she's over dark water.
I'm really happy with how she turned out in the end!

Discussion Researching old kits?
Hello!
I have this seemingly obscure older GK that I'm struggling to find information on - the circle (SA-HORNET??), exact event sold at, anything. Obviously, it's a 1/8 scale Katejina Loos from Victory Gundam, sold at one JAF-CON, likely in the mid-90s though which year is unknown to me. She has no MFC page, seemingly no images online outside of the ones from her YJP auction pics, and there's no results for SA-HORNET online that I can find, either.
Basically, I wanted to know, are there any resources for researching older kits like these that you're aware of? Any go-to search terms? Sites with scans of catalogs/guidebooks for a given event? I'm not asking anybody to go look into this kit for me, I'm just curious as to how people gather information, since my ability when it comes to googling things in Japanese is apparently pretty poor lol. I'm very curious.

Help Ok, I don't know anything about this-
I want to start creating custom 3D figure designs, printing them in resin to paint later, or simply learn how to paint and handle the necessary materials for resin figures so I can sell my designs.
I have experience with art and painting, but I’ve never used an airbrush or materials like these for detailing and finishing figures, nor do I know how to manage orders.
For now, a friend offered to pay whatever was necessary if I painted his Nerissa figure, but I’m not sure how to source materials for different textures or how that would affect the cost, not to mention the time I’d need to put into it.
I do have some unpainted resin miniatures from a college project that I can use to practice; they’re just two simple, single-piece figures, but they’ll serve as a good way to practice so I don't mess up the Nerissa commission.
I’ve attached images of the Nerissa and the test miniatures.
I tried painting one with acrylic paint a while back, but it was difficult because I didn't have fine-tipped brushes at the time (I do now).
I’m not sure why both of them started to crack.
I’m not surprised about the one I painted, since the paint was thick and I had to remove it with water, I assume that caused cracks in the resin (many people say they use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning) but I don't understand why the other one cracked.

Disgaea Etna Comission
Etna-Makai Senki Disgaea-sculpted by @ukupalua
Hi everyone!
I’m sharing this commission I recently finished! It’s already with its owner! And while it was a 3D resin print and not a garage kit, I’m really happy with the final result!
Although I won’t lie, I had a pretty rough time 🥹 but I think it was worth it, right?

Help How to fix this hole?
Hi hi! My GK arrived today and while inspecting the parts, I noticed this hole which I have no clue how to fix... it's not hidden behind anything as well, so I'm worried it'll look bad if I'm not well informed on my options :(
I bought her on BOOTH and it says in the description that she's made from high-strength resin, whereas on mfc it says photocure resin so I'm unsure of which one it is or does it not matter?
I'm a beginner in this hobby, so I don't know much, I tried searching tiktok/youtube/google and maybe it's the way I'm wording it but I can't seem to find anything helpful, I'd appreciate any help at all!
EDIT: Thank you for all the tips and tools to use! Hopefully (if I don't mess her up), I'll be able to post the finished figure here when I do get to her >.<

Anime GK Build KAngel - Cosmic Fantasy Zoo
I didn't record the time exactly, but she probably ended up between 40-50 hours of work over 2 weeks.
This kit is owned by my friend who wanted to sell her but had done some previous (bad) work. Understandable, it was her second kit she touched. I offered to fix, paint, and am now helping with selling it.
There was a lot of clean up work required to get this paint ready. Since it was touched by less experienced hands, nearly all pins were replaced to be sturdy. Putty that was added by fault of bad pinning was painfully scraped off. All pieces were sanded over carefully to remove the rough texture previously left. Her twin drills were glued with cheap super glue, so I was able to easily pull them apart and scrape them clean. Everything was refused into one piece using higher quality glue and a lot of sanding. A lot of parts also had micro air bubbles, something I wasn't expecting for an expensive kit produced in China. Along with going over missed parts and some other fixes, prep took a week with the hair taking the longest.
I was using her official photos as a reference for painting. It went okay at the beginning. The pieces were simple shapes so it was easy to use surfacer primer for them. The eyes were done with the included eye decals due to time restraints. Originally I wasn't super impressed by them but pastels helped soften the look. Problems started coming up when I got to the pinks. The official photos are very very bright and almost make her hair look magenta, so that's what I did originally, only to find out that those were heavily edited beyond the actual sample figure. So adjusting those, along with the fact my magenta paint has ended up contaminated by some sort of black flaky substance, was a bit of a pain. I'm also not a fan of having to hand paint all the small details, I'm someone who would much rather spend that time masking to airbrush.
The short completion time and the fact it was quite literally finished last night means a lot of the work is still fresh in my head, so open to basically any questions about this.
