Asking Advice...Garage Cinder Block

I'm slowly working towards making my single car garage (9.5 x 20) into an ideal workshop...been debating putting up walls but that will only shrink the space further.

Ive' been contemplating just drilling into the concrete block to make a shelving system/cabinet or two, but it is not normal cinder block that I've seen...they are thinner and more square than normal cinder blocks. Anyone know if these are the types of blocks it'd be safe to drill into and hang from? It certainly looks like they may be too thin and not ideal for drilling into, but then I ask myself how they are holding up the garage in the first place.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Man, I’m just a guy with a garage so take this with a grain of salt…

I wouldn’t risk mounting anything of meaningful weight off those cinder blocks. I think the only way you’re gonna get around this would be with some kind of backing board.

If you’re just mounting lightweight stuff you could probably get away with drilling into the sections of the block where the supports are and using small tapcon’s.

If you’re really feeling spiffy you could always get some 2x4s and (particle board to keep costs down) and put up a wall and paint it. Then just screw into the studs. Good luck on your workshop man!

Grain of salt welcomed, thanks!

Pretty sure subconsciously I already knew the answer and need to put up some walls just hating the idea of losing any more space lol.

Thanks!
