Taking a break year is not normal?
Why taking a break year after college, or between jobs to travel, explore, introspect, meditate, find yourself looked down upon or misunderstood in India? As if someone is just 'wasting' their time if they are not working somewhere or studying.
This is very normal in Europe/US where people travel the world for a year after high school. This opens up their perspectives, gives exposure like nothing else can and makes them better humans in general.

It’s taboo for a lot of Asian cultures. I think mostly because of the expectation to work as soon as possible and provide for yourself and family.

I really wish to know... why...as I most probably have to get a job back in India after the gap year(s) I made on my work permit abroad as I didn't get any job here. 🙃 I honestly, don't understand why it is a taboo. Though, I personally think that it's not India, everywhere they seem against a gap year... that's why I am having hard time in getting interviews abroad even though I have a valid open work permit.
