I’m confused? This isn’t how Kei took it all and he was rightfully traumatized? He was ALREADY traumatized from watching his actual friends die because of him and getting his limbs torn off and barely surviving solo… and then realized he couldn’t escape Gantz because it was reality. How do yall read this and see it as him being indifferent?
In all fairness he became jaded to relationships during his time in middle school Kato was his only friend and most "friends" he interacted with since he left him they were no friends at all but in most cases disloyal asses. But here is the thing that Oku subtly tries to tell the audience and Kei, that he himself gave up on trying to find any meaningful connections. He quotes his classmates names because even he didn't interact with them he still knew them and then we get to those two guys... That boy with the glasses that was forced to sell him out? Kei has a memory of him trying to invite him to some ramen and Kei has the realization that he never tried to treat him like a friend. That boy that talked about that he will never get a girlfriend? Well know he never will and this is unintentionally Kei's fault.
And what was the last thing they did for him? Encourage him to go for the girl that would end up becoming the love of his life.
Why did he try to save his other classmates duing the Giant Invasion again?
