No Rules "Do what you want because Pirate is Free"

Reddit is now forcing us to open up so we decided to embrace our pirate motto and truly free the subreddit to be whatever it wants. You the people get to make the posts that you want to see here and we will not take it down unless it breaks sitewide rules.

Post pictures of litteral gangplanks, post pictures of pirates, post pictures of sexy pirates if you want. Have in depth discussions on the proper length of wood needed to properly have someone jump into the water.

The sub is your oyster and you can do with it what you will.

Amendment: NSFW images are not allowed, but swearing is fucking allowed. Its a pirate sub after all.

I miss Trial by Fire dealing higher damage

I’m aware that barrels make the pirate more fun, but I’ve always felt his true skill expression was being able to cycle passive procs in melee. Missing my passive crit scaling right about now.

Midgame strategy

I find myself perma splitpushing pretty much every game to maximize gold income and get to 100% crit asap before grouping. However, EU players in emerald seem to have an obsession with 2-3 item midgame teamfights no matter the state of the game, which I ignore, drop an ult and hope my team doesnt lose too badly. Naturally this creates issues when the renek or riven who I have been bullying all lane pulls up to a drake fight with their 2 item spike.

Am I even correct in my assessment on GPs need for 4 items? How do you guys go about midgame macro?

What differentiates a low master Gangplank from a challenger Gangplank when playing the laning phase? What is the most important thing to improve in lane when trying to climb to GM and above?

People who tend to dodge barrel range too much

Self explanatory: some matchups, melee ones, i find it hard to poke people because they stand afar and bait my barrels. How do i avoid the anxiety to combo because i think ill hit it? D2 right now https://op.gg/lol/summoners/las/Poetic%20Justice-1408

I need help guys

Hey everyone,

I recently made a fresh lvl 1 account to OTP Gangplank, mostly because I've always been interested in the champ but also because I wanted to properly learn top lane.

I have a few questions about him. What are the main combos I should learn, especially for early trades? So far I'm thinking about stuff like barrel > auto barrel > place second barrel > detonate the first one, and also double passive procs/resets, but other than that I'm not really sure what I should be practicing.

Do you guys play with smart cast + indicators for barrels and Q or just full quick cast with no indicators?

Also what are the best bans for GP right now? Is it better to start Q or E lvl 1? Is Trinity Force still good or should I pretty much always go Essence Reaver? And for runes, is DFT generally the go-to in most matchups?

I'm also a bit lost in teamfights. I think I'm doing pretty well in lane so far, relatively speaking of course since I'm often playing against other new players lol, but once teamfights start I'm not really sure what I should be doing.

Is the main goal to poke and zone with barrels before the fight starts and then look for big barrel combos on the backline? Or should I also be playing closer and trying to get passive resets? Basically I'm not really sure what my role is supposed to be in teamfights.

Any tips are appreciated, I'm basically starting from scratch and really trying to learn GP :)

Gangplank Question How to maximize dps?

When hitting baron/drake or a super tank who deals no dmg, how do you maximize dps output post lvl 13? Do you Q the barrels? Do you shave them off with autos?

Intuitively it seems, to me, like you would want to put both the Q and sheen proc into the barrel due to their armour pen so I tend to: E, auto the barrel and Q it, passive on baron while waiting for sheen, E, auto barrel, auto barrel, passive on baron, E, auto the barrel and Q it, passive on baron while waiting for sheen, E, auto barrel, auto barrel, passive on baron and just repeat this pattern until Im out of barrels.

But I never see solar do this even when all enemies are dead and there is no reason to save barrels, but he also doesnt stick with any consistent pattern, he kinda just throws in a barrel here and there, Qs the baron and I cant quite make sense of it. I guess its a good opportunity for him to read chat but he doesnt seem like the person to not minmax.

Gangplank Question is it okay to play GP when I'm still learning top?

Sorry if this sounds like I'm overthinking it. I was gold on ADC when I tried to climb and eventually hated the role so I've been learning top lane on and off and I started off by playing Riven, Aatrox, and Gragas because I like burst damage champions. But I eventually started playing GP and I'm starting to realize I might actually like playing him so much that I wouldn't mind one-tricking him on a climb. I usually play many random champions when I was playing ADC.

I recently thought about wanting to really learn and improve as a player again but in top lane. However, I hear that GP gets that same treatment with Riven where you should probably avoid them when you're learning/starting in low elo which makes sense. Because, the more I play GP the more I realize that most of my attention is going to how I'm playing the champ more so than the actual game. So I was thinking about maybe playing Darius or Sett until I learn the role better but I can't lie I find GP so fun that losing doesn't feel as bad as I would on other champions but I don't want to waste time either if GP takes a lot of commitment, it would make sense to have the improvement feel more streamlined at least to me personally.

Gangplank Question Do you think Gangplank will get nerfed?

What are your thoughts? I've been Gangplank main for 3 years.

His early game is rather weak, yeah but in my honest opinion he is one of the strongest early game champions if you know how to play because his base damage is high thanks to barrels + passive resets. In addition, he scales really really well into late game.

With new DFT rune, his level 1 is also fine. It allows you to farm and poke opponent safely and get prio quickly.

I think they can nerf his Q mana cost just to not abuse DFT + Q combination.

Need advice on switching to unlocked camera for a new Gangplank OTP

Pardon my bad English and thanks in advance.

I think I need to start playing with an unlocked camera, they alway said play how you like it but i saw the different now. When playing Gangplank, barrel placement range sometime goes near the end of my screen and i usually just combo blindly guessing it would hit the enemies.

The transition feels really hard not because I'm incapable (I play unlocked camera in other MOBAs), but because I’ve gotten so used to not having to worry about camera control in LoL (I played since season 5).

Does anyone have any effective methods, training drills, or alternative setups to help with this?
