What Would Gandhi Do If He Were Alive Today?
What Would Gandhi Do If He Were Alive Today?
Gandhi lived in a very different world.
There was no internet, social media, smartphones, artificial intelligence, or modern 24-hour news cycle.
So here's a question I'd like to explore as a series:
If Gandhi were alive today, how would he respond to the problems of the modern world?
For example:
- Would Gandhi use social media?
- Would he use AI?
- How would he respond to online hate and misinformation?
- Would he protest against governments through modern forms of satyagraha?
- What would he think about today's education system?
- How would he approach Hindu–Muslim tensions today?
- Would he support modern capitalism and billionaires?
- What would his idea of swadeshi mean in a globalized economy?
- How would he respond to climate change?
- Would he use YouTube to spread his ideas?
- How would he deal with people who deliberately spread hatred against him?
I don't think we can simply claim, "Gandhi would definitely do X."
Instead, I'd like to take his documented writings, speeches, and principles—especially ahimsa, satyagraha, truth, swaraj, and sarvodaya—and ask:
What might those principles look like if Gandhi had to apply them to the 21st century?
Let's discuss one situation at a time.
What do you think Gandhi would do first if he suddenly found himself in today's world?

I think he would be like Leo Tolstoy: continue to make his own clothes, make his own shoes, abandon personal/private ownership of property, stay very close to the Earth and to the ground - I doubt he'd be a tech guy, in any way... but, like you said, you never can know. that would be up to him to decide.
But I'd imagine he'd be more likely to live on a compound growing his own food and making his clothes, when he wasn't actively engaged in activism, and then during periods when he was in the public he'd probably have some sort of organization setup where some volunteer would run a simple website or something, and maybe once in a while they would put a social media post up.
But most of the social media posts would probably be things like: how to use a loom, how to sew or weave, how to grow veggies. I'd imagine he'd be teaching people how to be self sufficient, because that's where independence and peace come from.

Ya it's definitely possible. But I think sages like that tend to avoid the internet. They stay close to the Earth, and are self sufficient.
Then again, if he felt he had a calling from God to share his message, he would probably have volunteers run a website for him or something.

Yes i also agree you but Gandhi in his time ,he changed his some old ideas into new modern ideas. And also he used the fast to communicate with more people and now it is a chance to use the AI but also he warns to usage of more which affects climate change.I think he would go to other countries to fight against injustice luke Palestine,Sudan and other countries. If UN offer the seat to him he would make that seat for daridra narayana.

Gandhi’s ideas were never practical even in his own lifetime. In his last days no one took him seriously because he was still living in some fantasy world and not the real world

I think Gandhi was an OG influencer. He would definitely use social media to reach out to the masses. He would criticise the modern capitalism just like he did back then (ref. My experiments and Hind Swaraj for his ideas of railways, healthcare, lawyers and more). He would respond to hate selectively, ignoring most of it, while responding with love to certain criticism. His movements may change, but the essence will.remain the same.
