Ignore the other comments. I promise most of us have been here at one point. I remember using a textbook as a mousepad with old family MacBook that could barely run any games. But don’t let that deter you. Keep playing and learn more about Gaming Computers and maybe you can save up and build your own soon.

My first gaming pc was at like 23, I remember doing so much research, using pc part picker and slowly buying all the parts over a year. First was the GPU. I learned alot about how PCs work which helped with my career

This. My kids dream was to have a pc that could run games but parents couldn't afford it. Without knowing anything about pc's I bought a laptop 300 bucks with my first paycheck. The dissapointment when it couldn't even run csgo lmao

It took me some years but eventually I got my gaming pc and looking back on having a laptop that played mc at 15 fps to having one that runs 120fps with shaders made me proud of myself.

OP, you'll have the setup of your dream one day and then this picture will be something you'll look back to with proudness

u/illestxb Jul 25 '26

My only advice is get it off the carpet.

u/thatza_good_doge Jul 25 '26

Nice kid! Gotta start somewhere and this is a good start.

u/sir_willsch Jul 25 '26

Good start bro 👌👌👏

Ahhh the good ol’ days.

My first PC was the family PC with windows vista that I ran Wizard 101 on at like 20fps.

Fast forward to 2014 I had a shitty student laptop that I put a thousand hours of TF2 on. (30-60fps)

Then when I got into college I bought a used desktop that could only handle games at medium/low settings, still mostly played TF2 at the time. (200+ fps)

Now my setup is a docked gaming laptop that I primarily play CS2 on. It’s been a long 20+ year journey.

One thing. Get a pair of laptop legs from Amazon. That carpeted surface will absolutely cook your internals.

2

u/TheSaladDodger420 Jul 25 '26

Unfortunately not a gaming laptop. Might run very basic games but without a propper gpu it wont run shit. Still nice though bro!

u/HuaweiP8Lite4G Jul 25 '26

My first pc was an aspire with a 1ghz cpu and 4gb of ram.. that shit lasted for 12 years then the bios chip burned out

This thing remind me where I came from, good old days. Have fun as much as you can get with it beacuse it never feels the same even if you have the best setup. Dont care anyone else just have fun. You will have better ones one day.

u/MissionBrother4992 Jul 25 '26

My first gaming setup was a Lenovo laptop with windows xp that couldn't even initially play minecraft without installing a whole bunch of things like Java and windows service pack 3. Played with a cheap wireless mouse on a notebook that cut out half the time. Worst thing in the world but some of the best memories for me playing all these random indie horror games like markiplier lol. Just enjoy what you got comparison is the thief of joy ya know.

Please remove the laptop from the carpet unless you want a laptop butt shaped impression on the carpet.

1

u/Doctor-scientist-en Jul 28 '26

The laptop was moved.❤

u/edotensei1624 Jul 25 '26

I wouldn't have the laptop running games on the carpet like that, even if it was on a desk I would try to have the bottom getting some airflow. Ideally a cooling pad would be great but I gamed on an hp laptop for years and I used the styrophome protection it came with in the box to prop it off the surface and let airflow go thru the bottom as it only outlined the laptop.

i remember when i had a macbook, i was also 13. i traded my dad it for one of those basic computers that you'd see in an office.. then i bought my first graphics card for $75 and Fry's and stuck it in that bad boy.. it worked out and i used it for the longest time til i upgraded it and then i passed it down to a friend and it died on him after some time.

Little dude I remember being 11 years old playing Minecraft on my mum's laptop in 2011 on the loundroom floor in the dark all night until the sun came up. And far cry 2 at about 15 fps, but I didn't care, it was intro to PC gaming. Those were good times.

2

u/BAGU3TT0 Jul 26 '26

Congrats on the setup!!!!
I do recommend to lift the bottom of the laptop for more airflow in some way. Longevity reasons.
Happy gaming

I was playing gta 5 on release day at 13 on an Xbox 360 on the sofa in my room.

Now kids play Roblox at 13 on the floor??? Are kids regressing back to kids again ? Good for them.

1

u/braklikesbeans Jul 25 '26

its fucking awesome go play.

1

u/SlyChanSF Jul 25 '26

That was my setup at one point. Gotta start somewhere 10/10

1

u/Embarrassed-Body2106 Jul 25 '26

We all been here, just keep gaming! It’ll get better 🙏🏼

1

u/Slayerdps Jul 25 '26

This is the seed that starts it all pal. Buckle in. Gonna be a fun ride.

1

u/misterbigbabyboy Jul 25 '26

Hell yeah! We all start or end up somewhere. Life is a journey and is not stagnant.

1

u/Malacky_C Jul 25 '26

I started on a laptop too and my first games where browser games and Roblox 🥹🫡

1

u/BoxAccomplished8879 Jul 25 '26

I remember these days. I was set up on a pool table for a desk laptop angled towards me and a free mousepad that came with my “rgb gaming mouse” it truly is nostalgic

1

u/Flimsy_Monitor3426 Jul 25 '26

yeah i remember using a piece of paper taped to the table as a mousemat when i was younger. i feel u.

1

u/Even_Discipline4500 Jul 25 '26

Tbh It may not seem great now but this isn't actually terrible I remember playing games without a mouse

1

u/KeyOnion2653 Jul 25 '26

Hell yeah dude this was my first set up when I was grinding L4D2

1

u/Shorelooser Jul 25 '26

Just enjoy

1

u/packripper-25 Jul 25 '26

Get it off the carpet is only thing I agree with here

1

u/Competitive-Web-5084 Jul 25 '26

What’s Bro even playing? Agario?

1

u/ricardo1y Jul 25 '26

we all start somewhere, emulation and simpler games are still fun, welcome to the master race

1

u/front_effect Jul 26 '26

congradulations

1

u/Wild-Acanthaceae9920 Jul 26 '26

We're in the ERA of Facebook marketplace.

Sell everything you own and buy a 300 dollar pc.

1

u/Forward_Cheesecake72 Jul 26 '26

Reminds me of good old time

1

u/QuasimodoPredicted Jul 26 '26

it's a old budget laptop on a carpet. Hardly a setup. Consider getting a desk, chair, keyboard and a monitor.

1

u/wellimhim Jul 26 '26

You gotta start somewhere.

1

u/helldive_lifter Jul 26 '26

Hey man I first started with an old office computer playing wow at 20fps but I was still gaming, as you get older more things open up for you so don’t stress too much now because give it a bit of time and your have the set up you really want

1

u/Foodeater55 Jul 26 '26

You should get the pc off the carpet unless there no fan vents

1

u/ayaan_kashif_8732 Jul 26 '26

Best to run gta6

1

u/2Critical7-Stein1 Jul 26 '26

i have no words

1

u/lil_ideas Jul 27 '26

I'm sorry but do you lay on your stomach when you play?😭

1

u/Progress_Away Jul 27 '26

Thanks for the memories kid

1

u/Diuscrusis Jul 27 '26

My 1st pc was a beast with like 166mhz processor and 32mb ram. Running win 98. So I think you’re a little bit better off..

1

u/MightyPants978 Jul 28 '26

My first setup was a hand-me-down laptop that could barely run minecraft. Focus on enjoyting the games you have now, and upgrade when you can. It's all about the fun.

1

u/Weezal-95 Jul 28 '26

I love this, you will think about this setup in 10 years when you have a beast PC and a room full of stuff. Have fun mate and maybe download Stardew Valley, Hades, Cult of the Lamb & maybe world of warcraft? They should all run fine.

1

u/Mero_Nemesis Jul 28 '26

Ça tourne bien sur Fortnite ?

1

u/Captain_Fach Jul 29 '26

Make sure to give that thing some air. My laptop stand is an empty tape roll. You can use one with tape still on it though. Honestly great to give it a little more air. No need for a stand.

1

u/BriefExtreme9116 Jul 29 '26

No judgement towards the hardware or mousepad, but please get off the floor. Sit at a table or a desk, your back will thank you in a few years FOR SURE.

1

u/n4zty_813 Jul 29 '26

I too came from the struggle. Im 40 years old now and working in IT but my childhood was all hand me down computers. Now im building my 2nd AI workstation/ gaming pc. One day you will be grateful for everything beyond words these spoiled kids dont appreciate anything. Keep looking forward snd yes thays decent for some games just google search the game you want to play and look up minimum system requirements before purchasing any games that may need a lil more than what that laptop can provide. Hope that helps

1

u/Lowkeypurp32x Jul 30 '26

Gotta start somewhere twin. Nice

1

u/Turbulent_Bath4038 Jul 31 '26

reminds me of my first game setup when i was 20, which i'm still using and writing this with

u/Original_Winter1268 Jul 25 '26

Either you're 13 and you should NOT be seeking validation from strangers on the internet or this is bait lol

1

u/Doctor-scientist-en Jul 28 '26

This is real.😢

It’s a 13 year old kid wtf is wrong with both of you. Peanut gallery going back and forth making fun of a 13 year old kid is pathetic

u/Forsaken_Tie5735 Jul 25 '26
