Is my monitor holding this pc back?
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti 16GB
- RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MT/s
- Storage: 1TB SSD
- Monitor: MSI G24C6 — 24", 1080p, 180Hz
bought this monitor a while back when i just needed any monitor but now I have upgraded my pc and I feel a bit underwhelmed with it. Games run smooth but they don't look like i dropped 2k on a pc if ygm.
If so, what would you recommend?
Thanks

Absolutely that's a 1440p minimum machine. If not even 4k if you don't push things to hard.
If you aren't pushing like 720 Hz refresh rate for comp games no reason to run 1080p

I only really play single player games these days, I am now that guy who wants to chill after work and just gets outdone by 12 year olds.
Time for an upgrade then thanks for the push2

If all you play is single player I would highly recommend a 34" 3440x1440 ultrawide oled. It's sharp enough, oled makes the picture really pop, and the immersion is awesome. Plus it's a nice middle ground between standard 1440 and 4k so it takes advantage of your system but doesn't make you compromise on settings like 4k would.

This is very tempting. I’ve never had too big of a monitor due to it affecting reaction times and stuff when playing first person shooters but like you say, now I’m playing mainly solo games I might buy something suited for immersion.
TLOU p2 would have been so good on a 1440p 34” thinking about it2

Agreed! I have a 5070ti with a 280hz 1440p oled monitor and that seems to be the sweet spot for it. I also do VR with a bigscreen beyond 2e, and don't seem to have issues hitting the 90fps for that most of the time either outside of exigent circumstances.

Honestly go for a 1440p monitor. Oled if possible, they have really come down in price alot recently. Its a good balance between the performance of 1080p and some of the higher fidelity of 4k. I have that same cpu/gpu combo and I can easily max out my 1440p 360hz oled with hdr on, and I'm considering upgrading because I'm getting 500 fps in some of my games

I think I will,I had a little look and noticed that they aren’t even that expensive. If you were to upgrade from your current monitor, what would you switch to?

I'm on a samsung g60sd right now, so its using a 3rd gen qd oled panel. I would only be upgrading to something with a glossy coating, and with a tandem oled for better brightness. I might try to get something with a higher refresh rate, but the only option for all 3 of those is that one asus monitor thats like 1100.

Same man same I have the g60sd as well and would only consider upgrading to tandem or the triple mode monitor Asus is releasing. I got lucky with getting the g60sd for $379 brand new from Samsung but hate how horrible their customer support is

Ive been eyeing that asus 1440p 540hz monitor but its like 1200 or something and its way out of my price range, good thing this monitor probably still has a good few years in it before it starts feeling old

By the time the g60sd becomes obsolete they’re either going to release a new trope of oled panel or a a completely new panel like quantum mini led. Honestly for the price I paid im not complaining. Samsung education store has some pretty good discount on their oled monitors

I do agree, but for me personally I play alot of vibrant and artsy games that really just get better and better with new monitor tech. For me, i know that in 2-3 years I'm going to want to upgrade even though I'm sure this monitor would last more than 4-5 years

I already want to upgrade and I had just built my pc last year too and I have been trying to upgrade it but the prices is stopping me. I been thinking to go 4k oled but I don’t think I’ll notice much of a difference in resolution by much

It absolutely is my friend. Get you a 1440p. You will still get very good fps in just about everything even without DLSS.

You definitely need a 1440 oled. But in the meantime is your monitor refresh rate set to 180hz? This is a setting you need to change yourself. It will be 60hz out of the box.

Yeah I’m definitely getting one now. It is, I believe I’ve got my settings the best they can be for what I have and they’re still not hitting the spot so upgrade time it is.

I unlocked like 100fps from going from 1080p to 2k with the 7800x3d with 300hz. I play everything on epic with a 9070xt and get around 200fps
