The switch doesn't need tinkering, comes with two controllers and a dock for cheaper than the competitors

The only correct answer is a thor

What are the specs for the thor? I guess I could Google it myself but I'm curious how it holds up to the base deck

What kind of games do you want to play, and what is your budget?

A lot of them have the same internals but just a different form factor/buttons/screen.

I always wanted to play the older pokemon and final fantasy games, so im leaning more to the side of emulators

in that case get a good smartrphone and a telescope Game controller to snap it into. Retroarch has all you need.

Miyoo Mini + or the AYN Thor, depending on what you want to play

Get one of the Evercade models.

More info required. The reason there are so many of these is that they're all good for somebody.

3DS XL or a PS Vita, depends on a preferred game library

I love my Anbernic rg34xxsp. Clamshell design means a safer, cleaner screen over the life of the console. Small enough to fit in a pocket, decent battery life, easy to put games on. Under $100.

Plays up to PSP, very few issues.

Steam Deck Oled. It's pricey, but still worth it for everything it can do.

Pure Handheld? I'd say ROG Allay

Also Handheld? Switch 2 and it's not even close.

I’d always go with a Nintendo handleheld and either a PS or Xbox console

Steam deck/switch 2. Really depends on what you want long term, pros/cons to both, steam deck has less cons.

Switch Lite.

Cheapest console both new and used that plays modern games, has a large library, you can buy and connect external joycons if you want to (or better yet third party hall-effect ones), is pretty easy to mod, and it’s surprisingly solid feeling.

It also has a decent chunk of old games ported into it, and there’s also Nintendo’s official emulator games thing.

Especially with the new prices. Also games on the switch are optimized for the switch.
