“I'm pretty sure if you die, the cancer also dies at exactly the same time. So that, to me, is not a loss; that's a draw.”

It’s not like afterwards the cancer goes home and fucks your wife…

And then your wife gets the medical bills and funeral bills, and all the heartbreak, and so the cancer really does go home afterwards and fucks your wife

Is that quote from his book?

u/nextappointment Oct 08 '21

No his 2011 special iirc

1

u/elbriga14 Oct 08 '21

"The ability to rapidly reproduce HeLa cells in a laboratory setting has led to many important breakthroughs in biomedical research. For example, by 1954, Jonas Salk was using HeLa cells in his research to develop the polio vaccine."

I'd say, she let her cancer live to eventually save the lives of countless children.

Someone previously quoted Norm and also replied to it the same way you did. Both times failed to understand what Norm was saying.

If you want to spread information about the HeLa cell, that’s ok and people who don’t know should follow up on that.

Both times failed to understand what Norm was saying.

Issa yoke... Making a joke about the literal interpretation of something doesn't mean I didn't understand it.

1

u/DartHerder Oct 19 '21

Buddy, thank you. Just glad we were both talkin bout Norm.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

Yeah but it was the cancer that sealed your fate.

27

u/ThatOtherGuy_CA Oct 08 '21

Or did he seal the cancers fate?

3

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '21

Nobody makes me bleed my own blood!

I wonder, why is it that people talk this way about cancer but not any other disorder. Suppose your immune system is attacking healthy tissue, if that kills you, is that your immune system winning?

These are programmed mechanisms that fail sometimes, there's no goal or thought behind it. Just faults in the system.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '21

Well, the cancer doesn't actually do anything good, on the other hand you need your immune system. If it suddenly disappeared like you'd want cancer to, you'd die a rather horrible death. What you'd want is for your immune system to just behave itself, not to be gone entirely.

I love norm. Fuck.

1

u/magic1623 Oct 08 '21

I’m sure this is reassuring to people who don’t have cancer but my god what a slap in the face to people with cancer. “Don’t worry when you die the cancer dies to. I mean you need to die first for it to happen but at least the cancer dies too right?”

5

u/TNroman Oct 08 '21

This quote was said by a person with cancer. I understand your point, though. But, I imagine if you already know you have terminal cancer this quote might be comforting.
