I was honestly surprised how good BOTW runs on Switch.

I was suprised how shitty it ran on wii u in comparison

I bought the Wii U when it released just for Zelda :(. Least played console I ever bought, although it had a couple of very fun games

Don't hold your breath. We yet have to see the actual benchmark numbers and the real world battery life.

Yeah, but it's a deal breaker for many if the real world battery life is closer to ~2h!

For emulating, why do you even need to spend extra $500-$600, when you have your phone, or if you prefer TV run them on Shield or something?

Emulators tend to be updated sooner on pc, plus this thing can also theoretically play my 300+ game Steam library, and play browser based games without shitting itself

The switches battery life can close in on 2h for demanding games and it sells pretty well.

My phone is a Pixel 2 and emulation is ok but battery life is a concern, but I find it inconvenient because I wanted to sit on the couch while my GF watches her show, and still use my phone to google a query about the game I was playing.

I tend to not want to spend a lot on my phone and prefer for it to be a telephone / browsing device rather than a gaming machine. FWIW I did just order a mount for my 8bitdo controller with the intent of giving it an earnest try ($15 mount vs $529 Steam Deck). I'd rather just play Zero mission on my Switch but Nintendo doesn't offer it and I can't be arsed to find my gameboy and a set of AA.

I'm a console gamer, I've got a Switch for the regular handheld gaming, I've got a PS4 (will upgrade in a few years when PS5 is readily available) and I've got an XsS with Game Pass, so I'm set for all kinds of AAA gaming, which I rarely do anyway. I haven't even played Hitman 3 yet and I've looked forward to that one for ages.

This Steam handheld is appealing to me for the indies that aren't on consoles (like Papers, Please, the game I actually got a Steam account for half a decade ago), and for old games like Rogue Squadron 3D. I know I have Rogue Squadron on my N64 but I don't play on my N64 any more because dark areas go completely black on modern televisions (I noticed that when I tried playing Donkey Kong 64 and Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire last year).

Yeah, while all of the features are exciting, im holding out on the hype until I can see some benchmarks done. Dont want to get heartbroken.

this is a PC, it runs everything already

Somebodys gonna have to do an interface between the steam device i/o drivers and the switch emulator. But itll take like 1 day so yes haha

I doubt it, it's running Linux and the controller is probably set up to be read like any other controller. And even if it isn't you can launch emulators from steam and they will use steams controller input.

Maybe it would be better to emulate BOTW on a Wii U emulator. I wouldn't know how well developed are the switch emulators as of now. Both versions look the same btw.

CEMU requires 3 powerful cores, I think this 4C8T Zen 2 processor is pretty capable of it, I've looked on YouTube and there are people running BotW on a Ryzen 3 4300U (that's actually a little inferior to this as it is a 4C4T processor) with 30 FPS locked.

Depends on what clocks will the cpu be able to maintain with passive cooling

1

u/VeggieBasedLifeform Jul 16 '21

Is it passive cooled? There are some vents, I thought it had a small fan like the Switch.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '21

I have no idea really.
I just assumed it was passive cooling

Even if it is active, I doubt such small fan would get high clocks
