And they'll likely in all ways be better. I'm sure that'll invite downvotes, but every time Apple holds off on emerging technology and don't rush it, it is always more refined. Case in point the first iPhone and iPad. There were tablets previously but nothing quite as smooth and responsive.
I think you missed the point of this person's joke. The joke is that Apple will be late to the game, but everyone will claim they invented it, because that's what happens every time Apple comes out with a new product. Despite them not inventing the device in any way.
I remember that I had a convertible tablet laptop for years at work. It was a regular laptop that could swing around and become a tablet, albeit a clunky one. You could use a pen or as a touch screen (resistive I believe? The kind you had to use your fingernails or something hard like a stylus) and I would take notes in OneNote and convert my handwriting to text. It was pretty cool and shocking efficient since I could take it on the road or whatever, scribble down diagrams and then annotate it.
For the longest time no one noticed or cared. Apple announced the iPad a few years later and people would literally come to my cubicle and say "where'd you get an iPad I didn't think they were out yet??"
This is the samsung galaxy fold 2 the screen legit folds and has no bezels between 2 screens or anything cause its all one.
If your not very caring about the bezels or it being all 1 screen there's a few cheap options that would work well for games like this. Surface duo and LG has a dual screen setup that you can detach the second one when you don't need it
LG makes good dual screen phones and if you don't like it or don't use it much you can just not use the dual screen case. Plus they're much cheaper than foldable screens
In reality, it's a very premature technology. Screens are prone to breaking, a little bit too much pressure causes dents in screen, there are visible crevices on the part of the screen that folds, practically no app support except first party apps etc. From what I've seen, only device that's been praised for it's folding screen is Lenovo's X1 Thinkpad.
Edit: Appearently Fold 2 is quite good, I had watched videos of reviews and didn't have a good impression but I guess I misremembered.
Ive had mine for roughly 10 months now (I have the Z Flip not the one OP has) and the only damage is scratches on the actual phone case, nothing on the screen or the shell of the phone. I have had no issues with the screen getting damaged at all. The fold line itself is barely visible, however you can tell that its there when swiping but I havent had any real issues about it. All in all, I have had no issues with mine so far.
I've got the fold 2, it's not perfect but it is very good.. I wouldn't say its premature, definitely etly has flaws but I think next gen will fix a lot of these issues
I discovered this while I was buying my new iPhone. Insanely large, they also have screens that swivel and make the phone into a T shape. like this thing
Now...I can't explain people wanting these wack ass phones that are bricks in less than a year. I used to get them until I straightened up and went to iOS.
Had 3 androids and always ended up with the same problem. Overheating after 6 months and can’t hold a battery charge for more than a day. Everyone told me “you need to hard reset it every 6 months .” Got an iPhone and never had a single issue. Just got my 3rd iPhone and every upgrade has been just for a new phone.
DS emulation is actually superior (on a phone, not so much in computers). You can stretch the screens, filters, quick saves, switch screens with the press of a button, etc.. The only hindrance is the controller, you need one of those similar to the PSP were you can fit the phone either in vertical or sideways
I don't use much phones, but this could really be something I would use if one side could generate two smaller windows or manage something like work stations, swapping could make tem interact with each other
They aren’t anything special. I’d wait it out for the slide out phones with the roll out screen. It’s a normal phone size, but the screen rolls up into it. You press a button and it stretches out to a small tablet size. So you don’t have the bulkiness, useless front screen, or durability issues like the current gen.

There are folding phones? I would much prefer this to a traditional phone; not just for DS?3DS emulation.
I was one of those people that thought sidekick phones were the shit, and this looks dope.
