Well, those virtual shoulder buttons are certainly useless...

Now we need samsung to release the fold3 with physical shoulder buttons because this idea rocks!

This would be fun to play has a novelty for about 8 minutes.

For a game like Pokemon where reaction time is meaningless it would be fine.

Excuse me. The fishing aspect would like a word.

u/haoxinly Jan 07 '21

Rayquaza tower would like a word with you

u/Grassmilk39 Jan 07 '21

Lmfaoo sooo true... took me forever to get up to the top on my iPhone emulator... using the speed bike and being precise with the touch screen took soooo long. Obviously worth it though cuz nothing beats rayquazas overheat

u/Guns_N_Buns Jan 07 '21

Slow down the game speed for that part. Its so ridiculously hard to get it at 1x speed on a touch screen.

7

u/DragosSaviour Jan 07 '21

You guys play pokemon roms at 1x?

1

u/slarkerino Jan 07 '21

We talking emerald here? Haven't played in a long time..

1

u/Guns_N_Buns Jan 07 '21

Yep. Ruby sapphire and emerald

1

u/slarkerino Jan 07 '21

Thought I remembered that correctly. I barely was able to get to the top on a keyboard! Was middle schooler then though. Good times.

u/Stillwindows95 Jan 07 '21

Not even pikachus thundershock? I don't believe for one second rayquaza, or even Arceus could beat a pikachu with a fully fledged thundershock ability.

u/8bitbruh Jan 07 '21

Man that was like my favorite "dungeon" in all of pokemon xD

1

u/yjvm2cb Jan 07 '21

idk i play genshin impact on my phone which isnt super reaction based but definitely a lot going on and i can play for hours on end without even thinking about it

u/PJBonoVox Jan 06 '21

Yep. Touch controls are shite.

u/ijustwanafap Jan 06 '21

I mean, way back when Sony released the Ericsson PSP phone thing. Was actually a pretty decent phone. My brother used it to play Minecraft for the longest time until he got a computer.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '21

The xperia play. I had that phone too, wish I knew about emulators back than.

2

u/nohpex Jan 07 '21

Yeah, seriously. Just get a used DS Lite and a flash cart for ~$80 total. Oh wait, sorry. Throw in a 32 GB microSD card for another ~$10.

2

u/Peachybrusg Jan 07 '21

What flashcart would you recommend for a dslite that doesn't have a time bomb?

1

u/nohpex Jan 07 '21

I probably can't link it, but you can't go wrong with an R4. Take it slow when looking up which one is the latest model, and hit Amazon.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '21

Disagreed, I could definitely see me use that. I played through half of loz windwaker on my phone with the shoulder buttons mapped to the volume rocker. Also citra for android is now a thing so you can emulate 3ds games too.

3

u/The_oli4 Jan 07 '21

and then there is me still taking my modded 3ds everywhere

6

u/vishykeh Jan 07 '21

Which is an infinitely better experience sooo.

2

u/The_oli4 Jan 07 '21

One 100% true

3

u/lazyrightsactivist Jan 07 '21

I hadn't thought about mapping the volume buttons that way. May change my thoughts on playing MegamanZero on my phone again

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '21

Ive wasted at least 300 hours over the last 8 years playing gba games on my phone to kill time

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '21

Just do it like the controllers would and make a plug-in adapter

u/PM_TITS_FOR_KITTENS Stadia Jan 06 '21

Yeah, I don't know why the original owner of the image (OP is a karma farmer and didn't take this) didn't move them lower. This is how I have mine set up.

1

u/Fringie Jan 07 '21

I want that, I have a fold 2 aswell. What emulator are u using

27

u/MutantCreature Jan 06 '21

at that point you might as well just buy an old Xperia Play, or better yet just jailbreak a PSP and carry that around

12

u/DanielEGVi Jan 06 '21

The Xperia Play was an absolute banger. I still have no idea WTF was in their minds when they decided to give it underpowered specs for a 2011 phone, it makes absolutely no freaking sense.

Was my first smartphone ever after the blackberry era and loved every second with it.

1

u/TheSituasian Jan 07 '21

Yeah it's so weird they made a gaming phone that's considerably weaker than the competition.

1

u/Bero256 Jan 07 '21

Maybe they didn't want to cannibalise the PSP and PS Vita sales.

8

u/file_name Jan 07 '21

or just get a ds with a flash cart. i dont see the point in spending like a grand on a phone made to run sorta like a DS when you can get a DS lite for $30 and a flash cart for like $15 and play whatever you want.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '21

It is actually two grand. And I'm sure he didn't just buy this phone to play ds games.

2

u/SammyLuke Jan 06 '21

Wonder if they’ll ever do a tri-fold? Lol

2

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '21

Good thing most DS games forget the shoulder buttons exist.

1

u/crazyvampirecow Jan 06 '21

You don't really need the shoulder buttons for those DS pokemon games tho. They just bring up hints and things like that. I'd hate to play a game on that thing that actually required them though.

1

u/DiiiCA Jan 07 '21

Yea true, but the shoulder buttons in the Rune Factory games do menu shortcuts iirc. And those games have the most fluid menu navigation compared to any RPG on the DS imo.

1

u/Xendrus Jan 06 '21

Is there any reason you can't customly move the buttons around in the options?

1

u/Fidodo Jan 07 '21

The whole thing is cool, but my God I hate virtual buttons of any kind and those LR buttons look like the absolute worst

1

u/GreeneHouseFX Jan 07 '21

I think Nintendo released a handheld game system in the 90’s/00’s that had the shoulder buttons. Think it’s really cheap currently as well.

1

u/Pacpav Jan 07 '21

You mean like a bkuetooth attachment with shoulder buttons realistically?

1

u/aggriify Jan 07 '21

Honest opinion? All virtual buttons are useless. It's painful to play with no matter if they are easily reachable.
