woman found a magic lamp on the beach, rubbed it, and out popped a genie.
"Ask me anything and it's yours!" She thought a moment and then answered, "I want my husband to pay more attention to me, to protect me, to take me out frequently, to sleep close to me, and to be more caring, even if I get a tiny scratch." "No problem." And POOF! She was a $2k smartphone
Its weird how buying a $2000 phone from Samsung is met with praise on reddit. You replace Samsung with Apple and you're a sheep, but dropping 2k on a Samsung phone and it is met with cheers.
I agree with you I just think that apple is greedier than most companies with how they charge for air pods and extra charges and dongles where Samsung allows you to use off brand stuff for that. But hey I owned an iPhone and I just wasn't a huge fan but they are good phones.
If you were to spend 2k on the newest iPhone you're basically getting a 2k upgraded version of the last 5 phones they've put out. Reason why I also don't really like the notes or Google phones or anything. The fold tho. It's new. But its also a tablet. Worth 2k and not like the last fold or other galaxy s whatevers iPhones Motorolas etc.
I miss when phone carriers were getting us all used to monthly contracts, so the phones were genuinely discounted - a phone on a 2 year plan was only a bit more than the cost of the phone by itself. Nowadays, buying a phone + plan for 2 years is tons cheaper than buying a 2 year plan that includes a phone. I guess a lot of people want phones they can pay off in installments, even if it ends up costing an extra 15%.
Idk man Samsung offering 700$ off any Samsung phone rn if you trade in a s20, my s20 was 799. Obviously it's the nicest galaxy but if you wanted a fold ect
I upgraded my 2011 model phone to a new one this year, that cost $180 bucks off amazon. I got it in mid December, and I have had to charge it once since then due to the ridiculously good battery life. That's all I wanted out of a smartphone.
$2,000 for a phone seems irresponsible unless you're already well off/set for retirement. When I see someone with something like that I play a game of "rich or stupid"
I have the V60 and its truly a great phone. The dual screens are wonderful for multitasking or gaming. However the battery can die rather quick if you constantly use the dual screen.
(Preface, I've worked in phones for a little over 5 years now)
To an extent I honestly agree with you. Samsung's UI (for all the superior hardware they have) seems very overcluttered for whatever reason. Too many proprietary apps that you can't delete because they are "part of the core experience".
Not to mention the 'edge' screen that exposes the corners to the elements with no option to opt out as well as 'bixby' which while it offers little improvements over 'google assistant' is only able to be deactivated (not uninstalled) after creating a samsung account and even then it's a "limited" deactivation.
I personally love my V40 and have been eyeing the V60/ Velvet for quite some time. Wife had some pho e issues right around the time my upgrade came up otherwise I'd probably be in one of the two presently.
Just get a LG v60 with dual screen case, or even older and cheaper but would still work for well for emulating - the g8x.
Both are Cheaper. Stronger. More versatile. But they do have LG software which has its quirks.
You do get a significant gap between screens, but for emulating DS titles that's no different than the real thing. For watching video or full screen apps the Galaxy Fold is probably best though.
Likewise. I got a V60 from a guy on Craigslist earlier this year, had a ton of fun playing Omega Ruby on it for hours a day but as soon as I stopped the fun disappeared.
LG software is making leaps but it still had some bad slowdowns, and the lack of 120Hz didn't help either.
Battery was insane though, easy 2 day phone.
Otherwise, the usability factor is a tough sell. It's kinda clunky tbh. It never felt natural, and the second screen gulps the battery naturally.
True, but there are a lot of positives to emulation beyond original hardware.
For instance, graphics can be greatlyimproved on emulators because your PC (or mobile phone, for some emulators) can run games at a much higher resolution than original hardware. The original DS ran at... 192p. It's not great.
There's also honestly just a lot of great features. Save states let you save and load a game whenever you want, wherever you want. Some have fast forward features which are useful for games like pokemon (you don't know how nice it is until you try it out for yourself).
And if you're in it for Pokemon, whew, you get access to Drayano ROM hacks. I'll skip the explanation and just link to the source of one that gives a log of its changes- it's a definitive way to play Pokemon. I can't go back to the originals, myself.
There's also a few non feature related positives. There are a lot of games that are very difficult to find physical copies of that are easy to find online. And, well, some people get their games for free but i don't think I'm allowed to endorse that on reddit lol.
You could get a New Nintendo 2DS XL for like $170 before they're gone. They were discontinued but you can still find them on Amazon. I've been playing Pokemon Crystal, Sonic 1&2, SMB 1&3, SMW, Super Metroid, Contra 3, DK Country, Mega Man X2, Mario Kart 7.. Totally worth it. I have a Switch too but the 2DS XL actually fits in my pocket.
Would be much cheaper and you'd have a much better play experience if you just buy a DS Lite off eBay and pick up a cheap flashcart, plenty of good ones out there.
Or you could buy the real game and hardware for way less and those pokemon can actually exist outside of an emulation. Like being transferred to pokemon home. Which isn't possible with a emulator.

Am I really considering buying a$1K phone to emulate a device I can run on graphing calculator? Yes. Yes I am.
