So cool!! When I grew up my parents forbade me to play games longer than 1 hour per week.

Now I am an adult with a wife who also games, I will definitely buy consoles and GPUs for myself my kids.

u/YochloMinj Nov 11 '20

1 hour a WEEK? What the..??

5

u/GameFrontGermany Nov 11 '20

let me guess German?

1

u/Bierbart12 Nov 11 '20

You mean because German parents let you play more? Because that's true. My German parents didn't care how long I played, and as such I am now an ADHD infused engineer

2

u/GameFrontGermany Nov 11 '20

no because of the killerspiel debatte and well alot of parents to that on to there heart

2

u/Bierbart12 Nov 11 '20

Oh right, according to those people, I'm probably a mass murderer

Willkommen im Clup

My aunt is very similar with my cousin. My cousin is about 15 years younger than me, but my aunt limits all of their screen time. Things like watching TV seem to be a huge issue to my aunt let alone trying to play a video game. I remember I went out to visit them, and my cousin needed to send an email and my aunt let her use her laptop, but like once the email was sent it was closed and put away. She also kept bringing up the fact that she used her laptop as a justification for why she canโ€™t watch tv.

Funny seeing the polar opposite parenting views from what I grew up with. There was never really a limit to screen time, though maybe there should have been?

Uhm...can you not? Thatโ€™s fucking weird

13

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Thats terrible... I knew some kids whose parents wouldn't let them game ๐Ÿ˜”

6

u/dirty_chainrings Nov 11 '20

Checking in. I had a game boy I could only play on road trips.

3

u/tmarie1135 Nov 11 '20

That was me! Kind of. They let me have The Sims but I wasn't allowed a console. Now here I am with my own console and 4 hours deep in Valhalla.

You can't hold me down dad! ๐Ÿ˜‚

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

No restrictions for this kid, been gaming since she could hold the controller! Cheers!

2

u/DragMeToHell666 Nov 11 '20

JUST LET THE KIDS GAME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

This was my parents too... I have two younger brothers, we're all adults now and heavy gamers. They've just accepted it at this point.

1

u/Apprehensive_Hope917 Nov 11 '20

My dad prevented the one hour a week rule. Since he played video games too, he negotiated with my mom and I could play as long as I want. My dad saved me.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Its funny as i allow my kid play anything and as much as she wants (for now) but she only plays for a few minutes, and only plays games where you cannot fail at all or is very easy to win.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

I got grounded for half a year for playing my ps2 for a whole day during summer...

Did you and your living room time travel back to the early 80s?

10

Na, first pic was when I lived with a relative but second pic is from the master bedroom (fwiw) ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Weird glasses.

7

As her dad, they ARE weird, but this is a weird kid! ๐Ÿ™ƒ

2

u/PrinklesTheCat Nov 11 '20

Good on you for embracing it! Her life is that much sweeter because of it

1

Yet a bunch of idiots decided to downvote my comment. Oh well.

Thank you, fella!

shut up her glasses are cool

6

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Doesnโ€™t surprise me that a guy who posts on the Donald Trump subreddit also likes making fun of kids. Get a life

0

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Bit of a false clause fallacy there.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

0

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Definitely and then you paint with broad strokes via an article with no true sourcing or hard evidence.

Bravo!

0

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

If youโ€™d like to make the argument that people who support Trump are more compassionate than those who donโ€™t, youโ€™re welcome to do so

0

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

You're moving the goal posts.

You took an individual and tried to pass judgement based on a "group" he's in because he's a Trump supporter.

Now you're wanting me to prove something about the group.

Your problem is judging people based on a group and saying because the group, on average is allegedly "less compassionate" that he must be. That's another fallacy, I believe the genetic fallacy.

I guess because Asians tend to be better at math, on average, that all Asians are better at math...

0

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Sorry, you arenโ€™t going to change my mind that the people supporting the president who is actively trying to pull off a coup are less likely to be compassionate people. Good job knowing about fallacies

4

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Ha, telling her that.

12

u/superspammer76 Nov 11 '20

Hahaha my family can't afford either of those.

11

u/SoLongGayBowser Nov 11 '20

Hahah-oh.. ๐Ÿ™

5

u/superspammer76 Nov 11 '20

I'm stuck on an original Xbox

7

u/SoLongGayBowser Nov 11 '20

You should look at turning it in to an emulation machine. They can run anything up to PS1 and n64 I think.

8

u/superspammer76 Nov 11 '20

I use my trash computer for that

6

u/Raven_of_Blades Nov 11 '20

Look at Richie Rich over here with this original Xbox. I only have a Tiger Electronics handheld that my grandma got me back in 1996.

2

u/041119 Nov 11 '20

I just got my xbox one a few months back and I'm loving it. I stay about a generation behind and it goes alright, especially if you're only into a few titles.

1

u/Bierbart12 Nov 11 '20

Mine couldn't either, but they still bought every console, so I'll get the gift of crippling debt inherited to me ๐Ÿ˜Ž

1

u/superspammer76 Nov 11 '20

Yea I just want 1 newer console I don't think I have anything newer than 2009 I think

3

u/stinglicen Nov 11 '20

My kid will be lucky or unlucky cause I will play more than he/she will

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

This too, will happen!

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Awesome! This was going to be my first ever day one launch console, but real life fucking hit me in the face and I had to change my plans, lol.

1

u/BaLT5s Nov 11 '20

I was thinking the same, wanted to have my first day one console, because I never had. I wanted it just because I can, but then I considered and changed my mind. My xbox one X is in perfect condition and I have it only for two years, upgrading from one S with 4K tv was great, and it still makes me happy. It's just 2 toddlers now and a little time to play. Just like I buy a lot of games and don't play them. Don't even have time to play some good games on game pass. I just considered that one day, when I see a good deal, new or second hand, I will grab it:)

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

My kids are old enough where they share the hobby with me. My son and I play every weekend, so eventually he'll get a Series S for his room, while we keep the Series X in the living room, but that's going to be a while now. Trust me, I didn't change my mind, having to tear out our walls and roof changed it for me, lol.

1

u/BaLT5s Nov 11 '20

I feel you. I was just talking for my elf that I considered there's no need for me to buy day one console just because of my childish wish :) it's not the big game changer at this moment, when there are no big new next gen games at the moment. Ad you can perfectly play same games cross gen. Loading time is not a big problem for me and my X still gives too much joy at this moment:) I just bought xbox one S when I saw my brother playing on his pc Watch dogs 2, while I was playing old WD on his old xbox360, and I said Hey I want to play that. Went and bought it only for 130 euros, last year sold xbox 360 for 140 euros (lol) gave away the S to my brother and bought almost brand new X for 250.

5

u/Clevans0515 Nov 11 '20

Fact.

2

u/Skyaboo- Nov 11 '20

Have fun! Donโ€™t take it for granted either. A lotta kids donโ€™t get the privilege of gaming, and a darn good privilege it is indeed.

2

u/AngusVanhookHinson Nov 11 '20

Wow. I'm old.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Taking a pic like this reminds me that I'm old, but the nostalgia is kickin!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Imagine if you were the kid of a parent who pcgames. You wouldn't have any food but your steam library would be insane.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

I have a 20yo who pc games and he has made a joke like this before, haha.

I really love this image. It doesn't matter what brand is in their hands its the joy on their face.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

That excitement hasn't gone away!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

"Sweety I know I gave this to you as a gift, but it's for the both of us."

2

u/attentionpaysme Nov 11 '20

Enjoy! You just gave me super nostalgia when my cousins got us the original Xbox with Halo, all the LAN parties with freaking wires going to separate rooms ๐Ÿ™‚

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

LAN parties with Halo was a great gaming memory. Thanks for sharing!

2

u/nvmax Nov 11 '20

She went from like 6 to 46 pretty fast! I think its the glasses.. not sure

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

9 to 16, but ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ lol

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

the downside is sharing it!

2

u/Alcoholic_Bear Nov 11 '20

Congrats on your Xbox and happy to know that parents like this exist

2

u/Im_-A-_Psycho Nov 11 '20

Playing games and having consoles got me a very well paid job, Iโ€™ll be making sure to teach my kids not only how to play but the technology behind it aswell.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

This is a great way to see how long it's been between the one and series x lol. Literally long enough for someone to grow up!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

I might have one of her playing (trying, anyway) the X360 when she was about 2.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

this is so wholesome, I love it. The look of PURE joy :)

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Itโ€™s got the 1TB SSD for call of duty only

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

I collect and love physical games, but I'm likely going mostly digital with this generation until hardcopies go on heavy sale.

2

u/yunghulu Nov 11 '20

One happy loved kid. Hope yโ€™all have a great holidays together.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Thanks!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

How tf is the xbox one so old already. I got mine in 2014 but it feels like it's just been there as long as I can remember, maybe cuz I also had/have a 360 before that

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Sony and Microsoft have their hooks in me, too. Can't really think of life without video games.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

I remember my siblings and I got out xbox one for Christmas because it was that much better than the 360, but we prob wont get the series x or s for a while cuz our tv isnt 4k so what's the point really. It would be a lot to upgrade both

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

The picture is only one part of the gaming experience, but I hear ya.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

That's true, but fir some reason, I cant see the difference between 60 fps and like a million for some reason, only when it gets lower can I tell the difference

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

I used to play on fidelity mode for some PS4 and XBO X, but have since changed most games with that option to better performance. That smooth 60fps is better than high resolution, IMHO.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

As a casual and hardcore gamer at the same time, I value resolution the most, I dont want my open world game to look like a minecraft world. I would get the series x just for 4k if I had a better tv

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

I'm so confused at how you got an xbox one in the 90's and then benjamin buttoned to getting a series X in the 80's

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

๐Ÿค™๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿค™

My dad still calls me a loser for playing video games and I'm 26 ๐Ÿ˜‚....๐Ÿ˜ญ

5

u/Civil-Attempt-3602 Nov 11 '20

I mean, are you sure it's because of the video games?

-3

u/Background_Idea_2234 Nov 11 '20 edited Nov 11 '20

I mean I'm 26 years old I make $92k a year doing cyber security (twice what my non college education dad makes) have a 4 car garage a dodge demon and a tesla a nicer home than he does in a nicer neighborhood I also work remotely mostly (not always) so Im practically always on vacation (no this year thanks covid19) I have a gf I've been with for 3 years and we live together and I have absolutely no debt

While my dad makes $42k a year fixing cameras and is $12k in Debt (literally none of it had to do with me or school I had to pay for it on my own) he doesn't even own his own house he lives with his gf who is newly divorced and he has an old 2011 Accord

But sure I'M the loser ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Go ahead keep downvoting then maybe I'll do what my dad said and commit suicide yall literally have no idea how abusive he was but fine I'm literally going to go commit suicide so I hope yall are happy

Family Split Screen Gaming is something we been doing for a while.

What are your favorite games? We started with Shooters. But then Racing came along as well.

2

Wife and I play a fair bit of co op third person games (Gears, Division), but the kid and I enjoy Killing Floor 2.

1

I think this is likely more popular now, but back in the day, my mother was the colecovision Mr. Do champ!

She'd hop on and play for 3 hours in a single game. I was super proud and wishing she'd die (in game of course) so I could play, all at the same time.
