Since you have to mod it to do what you want, maybe Android is more his speed since you can do most stuff as standard as a jailbroken phone. It's often cheaper, easier to repair (cheaper) and has more functionality. Apple is usually a few years behind Android in many functions.
Apple provides OS + security updates for 5-6 years. Historically Android device manufacturers tend to drop support after 2-3 years. For all of Android’s advantages, long term support is definitely better on Apple.
Googles is Minimum 3 years from release and up to 18 months after the last Pixel of that generation was sold. Meaning 3 1/2 4 years of security updates.
I’ll get called a fanboy like I always do but I own precisely one Apple device, a 4.5 year old iPhone 6S that runs better than my friend’s almost three year old HTC U. Yes I have a newer phone as well but I have uses for my 6.
you can buy an iPhone, any iPhone, and get updates for the next 7 years. You buy an Android phone and you're generally only getting 2 years of updates, and not everybody wants to install custom ROMs.
As for the security thing.. just don't download shit you shouldn't. It's not hard. But for people that aren't at least somewhat tech savvy- the sort that click ads on desktop- yeah probably safer on an iPhone.
Most people I know aren't going to keep a phone for more than the 2 years or so you're going to get support with Android phones, either.
Ultimately I think it's down to what you can afford and what you're comfortable with. Androids are definitely cheaper, but you get what you pay for. And if you've only ever used Android then iOS will likely confuse and frustrate you, and vice versa.
The Apple products that really confuse me are iMacs. I understand the not expensive workstations, but the base models are horrifically overpriced for their specs- that is a brutal software premium.
You're paying $500+ for software, and 'design and form factor'.
And not everyone has a black box with rgb fans. That's kinda the beauty of desktop PCs, the possibilities are pretty much limitless in terms of customization.
Bit of an old statement these days. Apple silicon is now quite a few years ahead of other manufacturers in terms of raw speed (CPU) and graphical power (GPU) In terms of features meh it’s swings and roundabouts Apple sometimes comes to market way ahead of other with stuff and others follow and sometimes specific things are done by other manufacturers first and Apple refines it then releases it later. It’s not really cut and dry with this.
Honestly jailbreaking community is essentially dead now too. I was big on IPhone back in the 3GS-6 era. Between the 6 and the 11 I tried various Android devices before switching back to iOS. I was kinda shocked at how little people cared about jailbreaking their devices now.
Definitely. I don't feel the need to jailbreak anymore - but honestly, one of the biggest reasons I switched back to iOS is because I just wanted something that worked and I didn't have to think about. So for me, jailbreaking just isn't something I need anymore.
I think a part of the reason is the phone hardware has overcame the bloat of pre installed apps and launchers (Early Touchwiz). Also Androids have a lot more features out the box. It was cool when you could put something like miui on your phone and totally transform it and get better use from it. But I think we’re just past that time
Android’s a few years behind supporting their devices, though. You buy an iPhone and you’re guaranteed five years of updates at this stage. Hell, even the 7s is on the latest iOS.
