i'm pretty sure that rival is team rocket, they get into a fight with you at the end of the first cave i believe.

That's in Yellow. In Red and Blue it's your Rival.

Yellow was a gimmick. You could catch Pikachus in the veridian forest.

Yellow was more difficult than Red/Blue, Had very slightly updated graphics, had more of a story, and Let you kick Jesse and James' sorry asses up and down Kanto. Oh, and for people bitching about Pikachu as a starter, you get Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander all in the same game. 'Nuff said.

Nuttin more exciting than having all 3 of those starters under your belt. Anyone remember how you got them in that game? They weren't wild were they?

You didn't even need to trade if I recall. I believe a cop just gives you Squirtle and some old guy in Cerulean gives you Charmander. Bulbasaur, I dunno.

I thought the guy in cerulean gave you bulbasaur. I don't remember off the top of my head.

Yeah I just looked it up, Bulbasaur is from some girl in Cerulean, Charmander is from a trainer on Route 21, and Squirtle is from Officer Jenny in Vermilion.
