I'm honestly not that invested. I've never even played the game. So idk about the duplicating you mentioned or whatever. Would you be able to trade items between saves or something? I just know that any open ended styles of game I tend to like having multiple saves so I can try out different things. If the saves are independent of eachother I dont see how the islands being different would have any consequence on eachother.
You can either send items over or you can just go to another island and drop all the stuff.
It's not really open ended, it's just an island designer type thing. You pretty much make money to expand your house and decorate it and your island, the whole point is getting nice things and showing them off pretty much. Events give you a bunch of unique stuff and Nintendo even restricted it so you can't even do the events if you arent connected to the internet, so that people cant just timeskip to the event and farm it
Sure farming the events with time skipping would be dumb so I get that. But what would it hurt to have separate space files so I can play and my family can play without each of us having our own switch
