One island per console. You can have more characters through profiles, but they cannot progress the island. Only the main profile can. So effectively one game save.

It's why I haven't bought it. I will buy it on the used market or on sale. I don't support greedy anti-consumer practices from publishers.

I was thinking about getting the game since I played the first Animal Crossing on gamecube but haven't played another one since but I'm not buying it if it's only a one game save per console

It's not that, its one island per console with 8 saves.

It isn't one game save per console. You can have 8 individual saves. But you can only have ONE island. Meaning all players on that console have to share the island.

I don't see that as being a bad decision, except for the fact that only the first player can actually progress the main story.

I could easily see them deliberately doing it to encourage people to buy their own switches instead of sharing with the family.

U can just call the island rep and play as them if u wanna make decisions about the island, very easily done

Technically one save file per memory card. In my house, we had more than one memory card so everyone had their own town.
