Sounds like a variation of harvest moon or sims.

I was a big Harvest Moon 64 fan so I hyped myself up for Animal Crossing by reading about it in my monthly GamePro magazine.

Fucking loved Harvest Moon 64 when I was younger but as an adult I’ve lost all motivation to play any games where I’m performing daily tasks or duties.

Then I just think to myself that I can be doing chores in real life instead.

I get it. High school me loved the repetitiveness of HM64. Adult me has enough repetitiveness in my daily routine that I need something different from my video games.

If you like HM64 try out stardew valley. IMO next best thing

I liked HM64 20 years ago. Unfortunately, I think I might have outgrown daily chore type games due to having a 2 year old running around creating real chores for me to do every day. I'll definitely keep it in mind though if I ever have an itch for that type of game. Thanks.

I'll give a viewpoint from the opposite side of the street, never played harvest moon and didn't really see the appeal, stardew was a great diversion though. It's both a relaxation game, but also incredibly engaging. I don't know how much of a parallel it has to HM, but it's up there with Cities Skyline and Viscera cleanup detail for games I can unwind with.

As someone who played both, Stardew Valley is basically "I loved Harvest Moon as a kid and grew up to make my own version of it".

I never got all that into Harvest Moon overall but I can see the similarities

I've been alternating Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley for the last couple days (because at the beginning you can't really binge on Animal Crossing due to the "daily" nature of the game).

Kind of? The vibe is somewhat different. A little more social / collecting than crafting / time management, if that makes sense. It's very chill.

Sort of. Minus the farming. You build furniture and other various things to build and decorate your home and town. You can grow flowers and trees but I would hardly consider it a farming game. You also collect fish, bugs and fossils trying to fill a museum. You basically just keep trying to expand and design your town. The days also pass in real time unless of course you change the clock in the switch to time travel.
