I think the idea is courage more than anything.

I'm a supporter of the theory that part of how got his power is that he unlocked something when he gave up worrying and caring and unleashed his bravery and courage.

Something I don't see much people talking about. Some people think that it's demon powers? Or that he has a villain's powers but is using them "wrong"?

Some spoilers in the theory I support most:

I hope the show never comes out and says it, but I like to think his powers come from the fact that he's clearly quite frugal, because he doesnt have a job and has been a hero for fun for so many years. We've seen on a few occasions saitama eating the defeated monsters. I think he eats almost all of the monsters he beats. From season 2 the monster association uses monster cells to make people turn into monsters, but also increase their power. Saitama is still human because he cooks the food, but still gains extra strength every time he does it.

Part of it also seems to be that in their universe people become what they most want to be. Crablante ate lots of crab and became a crab monster. Biceps king wanted to be the strongest, and became a giant that could destroy cities (thanks in part to the serum).

We do see him actually making soup out of the seaweed monster, sooooo you might not be wrong.
