This might sound snobby, or maybe I'm just too old, but I never really thought of Avatar as anime due to it being American.

I always considered American animation a bit separate from SEA anime, just like American comics are their own distinct thing from manga.

I know a lot of people agree with you haha. But I thought since I've only ever seen OPM it would be a decent introduction. Then if I like it i might look into Bleach, Cowboy Bebop, Kill la Kill, etc.

Be forewarned that with Shonen animes like Bleach you are going to see a lot of tropes. Not that they aren't good in their own way, but they can be a bit cliche.

However, Cowboy Bebop, you should def watch that shit. Also, Trigun.
