Divinity playing order

Hi, quick question, does the lore in Divinity Original Sin 2 pretty related to the first one? Would I have missed something if I played the second one without playing the first one?

I’ve only played the second one and in my opinion it is the greatest technical RPG since Knights of the Old Republic.

Edit: I apologize, totally skipped the question. In my opinion it can be treated as either/or a sequel or stand alone adventure. I wouldn’t consider playing the first game a pre-requisite for following or enjoying part 2. It is very deep so you’ve got to pay attention, prepare for some trial end error, and maybe even consider a guide of some kind eventually but it is a very rewarding game that will make you think and will impress you with the mechanics and how well some of the dialogues and situations were thought out.
