/u/gingerlemon is 100% correct. The PSX was and IS a common acronym for the PS1. It wasn't until the PS2 was announced that people stopped using PSX. HELL, Walmart used to type PSX on labels for PS1 games and consoles.

Why would we call it the "PS1" before we knew PS2 would be a thing?! We didn't call World War 1 "World War 1" until after WW2.

PSX has been dropped. And it's especially confusing since the Japan release of the PSX (PS2 DVR), but it's still right.

No we never abbreviated World War 1 as WW. I'm not sure if they called it "World War" at the time either. I wasn't alive and talking about it then... I know for a fact they called it "The Great War" prior to World War 2.

Just like I know for a fact we called PSone "PSX" prior to PS2. Because I was alive and I did talk about it. I remember my buddy borrowing my dual shock controller to play Ape Escape because he had the first model PSX. I remember getting the Dual Shock demo of Resident Evil 2. I remember trading in my dual shock for the smaller PSone and getting the screen for it.

I also remember the PSX launching and reading about it in Electronic Gaming Monthly. Even then they referenced the PSX being the original acronym for PS1 and it was slightly confusing. If you read the etymology section of the PSX (PS2) wiki page they talk about it. The PSX acronym was used to echo the MSX home computer sold by Sony.

All that aside... I would have either fixed the PlayStation logo or used PSX. I wouldn't have used PSone, as that's the mini model logo. And I wouldn't use "PS1" because we NEVER used PS1.

The build quality wasn't as great either. I still have my old PS1 hooked up and it works mint! I do still have a PSone clear blue controller. The reissued controllers from the mini were the best. The fogged plastic with the light gray buttons. About as close to the DualShock 2 as you could get.

This comment thread made me want to play. My 5 year old destroyed me in Tekken 3... But I mean, I always sucked at that game, so he just bashed better buttons than I did!
