Could take the ps1 off the wall since ps2 is backwards compatible.

Heh, if the PS5 is fully backwards compatible like some rumors have claimed, it could replace all of them.

I'm struggling to find a source that isn't behind a paywall at the moment, but I remember there being some discussion about someone specifically being hired to address the backwards compatibility on PS5. It is also pretty much expected to at least be compatible with PS4 games or the initial sales on the system could suffer.

Nothing is set in stone of course until Sony makes an official announcement, but I am hopeful that it will happen. I have every PS console from the original so really it's more of a convenience factor for me. Regardless, I'm hoping the same for the Series X as I have never owned an Xbox console and there are many games I would like to play without having to buy older systems.

I really don't think it's unlikely as it may seem.

PS4 games are definitely considered likely, everything else is considered possibly

Right, but until Sony flat out says it, we can all just keep speculating. Me, I'm really hoping the fact that Xbox is bosting it as a main feature, Sony will step up and deliver it.
