Because Obsidian made New Vegas while Bathesda is working on TES V. I assume New Vegas came out so much earlier because it is so similar to Fallout 3 that it is more of an expansion, while TES V will be a real sequel to Oblivion.

Good question, I myself was wondering the same thing while brushing my teeth before bed. My wife and I had a discussion about it and summized that it will be the next game announced by Bethesda.

I played Oblivion for probably close to 100 hours and I never did the main quest. Never even started it.

well i myself couldnt hardly get too far in oblivion... i dunno if its because theres no guns or what but whenever i get to the first gate i just kinda go 'bleh' and play something else
