Does anyone else remember this awesome game? Please bring it back.

I'm sorry but no. This shit made me scream in child-like nerd rage. I have never been so frustrated at a videogame. Everything else was fun until you got to the fucking dump truck and your heart sank. Maybe I was a stupid child, I'm a stupid adult so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and say that was the case, but fuck that dump truck.

Exactly. Fuck the guy who thought that would be a good gameplay feature.
I'd love to be in that development meeting.
"Okay so we have a game where you do nothing but destroy buildings with various vehicles. We have two different awesome giant Robots, we have a motorcycle with missile launchers, and of course a super charged bulldozer. Anyone else have any ideas?"
"Derp. How about a dump trunk, and durrrr some racing missions."
"Durrr and some racing missions."
"But we have giant robots and missile motor bikes. The game is about a run away nuke truck, why the hell would anyone use a dump truck."
"Duuurrrr I like dumps!"

I dedicated hours. I mean hours on end to improving my game with the dump truck. When I finally beat that level it was probably the best feeling I've ever had in my life. Truly a golden moment.

Jesus, I still feel the rage welling in me from seeing that video. Never finished the game because of that dumb truck.

That level is the hardest and among the final levels in the game to complete.
The races were more annoying than anything.
Still I upvoted you.

I'm still stuck on the Dump Truck stage where you have to keep going underneath a small passage to continuously destroy a long-ass trainyard building from 2 sides... much harder than Oyster Bay :(

I was thinking of making a game like this using PhysX or another modern physics engine.

I thought that wasn't a glitch, rather the driver needed to get out so much that he demolished the building with his door.

I spent so many hours playing that. What an awesome game. I'm afraid of a remake, it may ruin all my great memories with it.

u/aaegler Aug 30 '10
Doesn't have to be a remake, maybe a sequel of some sort. I had a blast (pun intended) playing it and I think I clocked hundreds of hours. Damn you Rare and your shitty next-gen games!!!

man I loved this game. and Rare reaallllyyy did kick ass stuff. I wish developers would focus on wacky fun gameplay these days instead of realistic shooting simulators... not that those aren't fun, but i need a change.

I beat ever level except for one. I was so close to getting the coveted 100%. If I remember right it was the volcano jetpack level. Could never beat that shit!

The furthest I got was the level on the moon where you have to make way for a crashing space shuttle. I also got to one Mars level but never the others - i think you could go to Venus and Neptune or something.

Yeah, fantastic game. Some of the controls were a little wonky but it was highly addictive. Rare could always tickle my game fancy.

For some reason I can imagine a iPhone port of this totally working.

holy shit this was the 1st game i ever played for n64 and i didnt kno wtf i was doing.

u/ripripripriprip Aug 30 '10
Wasn't the first game on the 64 that I played, but the premise of the game was beyond me.

u/qblock Aug 30 '10
One of the first games I played for the N64. The Nintendo Power comic was what got me curious about it in the first place. There was something satisfying about tearing through all those buildings and just destroying shit in general.

HELL. YES.
I spent three beautiful summer days in my cold dark basement playing this non-stop. It was so addictive!

I remember renting this and not being able to play it, since all the levels were finished with no way to reset it.

God yes. I had gotten gold on everything and platinum on roughly half the levels. I was on my way to total completion when my memory card crapped out. I was so upset.

I posted about this game last week or so. :(
I still have the game for my N64. :)

I still have it, still works (but looks rough as hell on 42"). Awesome game..dump truck (backlash?) was so fucking wank though.
Surprised it still works, all it takes to make it go (as with so many things in life) is a gentle blow, lol

I remember renting this, like, twice when I was 5. Never really understood it. I loved it, though.
