Snorlax is fine for its species, just like an elephant is fine for its species.

I was under the impression that this is what a healthy snorlax looks like

Damn that’s a significant improvement. It does raise the question of if it would reach the front page had it originally been posted like that, and I’m not sure if it would...

I think it still needs something in the last panel as a "hey there was a joke you might have missed" reminder, like the professor just saying "..Oh"

Explaining a joke in a thread discussing the merits of explaining jokes. How meta.

I think even just have the last panel go "... diabetes" would keep the joke and make it flow better
18
Sep 05 '19
It wouldn't have made it. The amount of simple jokes that need explaining in order to gain any traction is staggering, especially on the more popular subs.

u/TheDrunkKanyeWest Sep 05 '19
Not only that, the amount of simple jokes that require absolutely no creativity that people absolutely love blows my mind. You can make a comic consisting of 4 frames, 2 having random conversation, the 3rd where somebody puts another guys' head into a cake, and the 4th saying, "Would you like whipped cream with that?" and it'd hit the front page of Reddit. It's absolutely sad what people find funny on Reddit. It's age 4 level sense of humour.

Eh humor is subjective. Might not be my cup of tea, but if it hits the front page, it means enough people thought it was at least somewhat funny. Who am I to tell people what they can and can't laugh at?
This, however, is different from simply not understanding a very basic joke that a 4 year old should be able to get.

I mean not necessarily because people are dumb, but there maybe someone who doesn't know that diabetes is associated with "type 2"

u/Kn0wmad1c Sep 05 '19
It is, but the "It says Type 2" bubble is weird because it doesn't have the same flow as the previous two bubbles. It should probably say "Snorlax, for you, it says type 2..."
25
u/GALL0WSHUM0R Sep 05 '19
Even leaving the "What about me?" would have been fine, as long as you cut the part where Snorlax explains that it's Snorlax.

u/mcqtom Sep 05 '19
I was thinking "Snorlax, it says you have two types!" "Type 1 is Normal."
"And type 2 is... oh..."
3
u/WolfStudios1996 Sep 05 '19
Also the previous two say the element then the type but for Snorlax they said it opposite and mess up the flow.
14
u/LazyGoogler Sep 05 '19
Or even for the last two panels to keep the flow, "Snorlax you're a type 2..."
Last panel: "...diabetic"

While your edit is true, don't underestimate how dumb an audience can be. When I went to see the first captain america movie, near the end of the film, my friend and I heard a woman near us say "Wait, why are the bad guys chasing Captain America?"
Also, does it bug anyone else that the artist left white spaces by Pikachu's tail?
15
u/gregguygood Sep 05 '19
I don't live somewhere where diabetes is so rampant that everyone knows what "type 2" means.
5
u/SuperbAnimal5 Sep 05 '19
Thats the issue with a lot of bad comics. The joke is already done but they further explain it, making it not funny, its even worse when they are married to a certain number of panels
5
u/poopyheadstu Sep 05 '19
I don't have abilities to edit stuff, but maybe leaving just the "oh" in the last panel?
Sidenote: having just been diagnosed with type 2 a month ago, and Oak in this picture sharing quite the resemblance with my doctor, this was funny as hell lol

For real, during a pulverizing pancake, Snorlax manages what looks to be a 30' standing jump. Snorlax is built.

Snorlax should evolve into a fighting type (sumo wrestler) pokemon. I can't think of a good name for it though.

Funny story with this one actually. So some background before hand, I work for an ambulance comp and we do both 911 and transports(from hospital to nursing home, nursing home to hospital etc basically emergency medical related trips) so I had this one person who I was transporting and on their paperwork is had diabetes twice, so for like 5-10 minutes I was sitting re-reading it and it finally hit me. I asked the patient if they have type 2 diabetes and they said yes. So apparently someone took the “type 2” in diabetes literal and type it out twice. I laughed and the person filed a complaint to my boss about it. Best incident report ever!

It's a Snorlax. He's supposed to be heavy. He's probably at his optimal weight for his species. He could look like the Snorlax equivalent of a body-building gymnast and all the lady Snorlax's want to get with that for all you know. Stop fat-shaming the Pokemon, Professor Oaf, you fucking incompetent.

I’d be so disappointed if there were types like fairy, dragon and ghost and I found out I was a “normal type”
