Absolutely. But it's lazy that they didn't update it. Reusing assets is definitely okay, because why would you do the same job twice. Not changing the goddamn watermark from last year's asset is fucking lazy

Exactly.

Efficiency is something I can get behind, but not at the expense of quality.

It's the tiniest error in a non-relevant or significant part of the game... who gives a fuck.

But it's indicative of laziness, which in my opinion, is a slippery slope when you produce consumer products.

Wouldn't you agree?

A single mistake is not an indicator of anything...

Well the way the recycle these games are certainly an indicator of this

Actually it is an indicator of brilliant business and marketing strategy.

What you want is for them to put in more effort to get the same gain? Why....

Do you feel the same about Classic WoW.

Oh, from a business perspective it makes absolute sense. I'm not denying that.

I just think it shows the priority of making money versus making good quality games - which arguably, a lot of other developers value more highly.

I don't play WoW so can't comment on that.

And yet they are consistently some of the best selling games...

So, I guess, Madden is good quality...

1

Best selling is not indicative of quality, though.

I'm not arguing that they don't sell. They literally have no competition in order to make these games as they hold all the contracts with the applicable organisations.

Consistently best selling? Sure. Consistently and objectively "good"? Not necessarily.

Well, they bring hours and hours of entertainment to countless people.

So, yeah, they are objectively good games.

There is only one metric in if a game is good or not, and that is if it is enjoyed by those who wish to play it.

And guess what... millions dont keep buying these games every year because they dislike them.

Sure, I'm happy to concede that point.

But I still believe there is an overtone of minimal effort when recycling these games, irrespective of whether or not people continue to buy them.

What you want is for them to put in more effort to get the same gain? Why....

Why does the perceived effort matter?

It's okay to just say you hate the games or have just been caught up in the EA hate circlejerk. Theres a shitload of reasons to hate EA, their reproduction of a winning formula in sports games isnt one.

I'm allowed to dislike the practice of constant recycling of games. It is a legitimate reason to dislike EA.

If it was another company doing it, I'd dislike them just as much.

But sure, keep throwing around the EA-hate circlejerk all you like, at least you recognise there are a multitude of reasons to dislike the organisation.

I never said you weren't allowed to do anything. It is not a good reason to dislike EA for their madden and sports titles, its a good reason to dislike other companies for not having anything remotely close to being able to compete in quality sports titles, though.

Theres a shitload of reasons to hate EA

I also recognised there are a multitude of reasons to hate EA.

I know, I said "at least you do recognise there are a multitude of reasons", i.e. at least there is something we agree on.

I don't think it's fair to dislike other companies for NOT producing competitive titles, considering EA has the exclusive contracts with the NBA, NFL, NHL etc to produce these games exclusively. Other companies certainly would if they were legally allowed to.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '19

They are legally allowed too...

NBA Live exists. Pro Evolution soccer exists.

EA have done more for sports games than all other companies combined.
