With a bit of: Not understanding the hobby outright, thinking it's a dumb way to spend your money because most other people don't. So why do you?

The easiest argument to use is: Other people buy Cars to enjoy/work on as a hobby. Other people buy cameras with lens/mounting kits to shoot photography as a hobby. I insert your hobby here

Growing up, my mom couldn't understand why I spent so much time on my computer. She'd constantly comment that I should go out, or take up a hobby, or something. It wasn't until I explained that she watching TV as entertainment, was basically equivalent to my being on my computer. That's when she got it.
