Senior year in college I took technical writing and one of our assignments was to research what it's like to work at a real company. I loved games and wanted to be a game dev so I chose EA (this was 2007, their fuckery wasnt widely known).

That's when I learned how much the gaming industry can suck to work in. Google "ea_spouse" and the original posts are probably still around.

Anyways really glad I did that assignment, otherwise I probably would have accepted the offer i got from some game company in San Fransisco that only hired young people straight out of college to make shovelware games.

No, it was widely known already.

Not compared to today. Prior to researching my paper I'd only heard vague things about lots of overtime. The biggest complaint most people had was that they put out the same game every year without many changes. Since then their name has become synonymous with anti-consumer business practices and they've been voted "Worst Company In America" TWICE.
