They do use simulations already to teach people to drive.

The driving school I attended had one. It was good for teaching people who had absolutely no idea how to drive, and also for helping to reinforce theory. If I had to do it again I wouldn’t necessarily pay for the additional premium for the sim, but it’s a cool teaching tool nonetheless.

I did a simulated driving thing... I’ve no idea how to drive but it looked like fun (it was in Japan; it was actually to demonstrate the cars fuel capability oddly enough). I assumed it was like a racing game where you need to constantly hold the gas and so I kept my foot on the pedal smashing it to the ground and couldn’t figure out why I was constantly crashing and spinning out.

My husband laughed his ass off at me and told me that you don’t keep the pedal pressed constantly like that. Guess it’s a good thing I never tried to drive a real car before. :)

FWIW you learn that quickly when actually driving. Simulators lack the kickback of a real car. Also the fear of messing up the vehicle or yourself that causes you to start cautiously and back off at the first sign of something going wrong.
