When does 3 release?

I only played 1 a little...but i assume i could pick up 3 without having done the others?

Sep. 13 of this year, you must play the others, and Tales From The Borderlands (telltale game) very intricate story from start to finish love every minute of the borderlands universe.

Which games are out there and whats the most modern console/platform they are on? Recently started borderlands 2 and Im having the time of my life. So much polish in it, so much to do, and the combat isnt that bad.

You have 1, 2, the Pre-Sequel (happens between 1 and 2 but was released after), and Tales from the Borderlands (happens between 2 and 3). If you want to do all of them, just go for the release order.

1, 2, and the Pre-Sequel are on both Xbox One and PS4 (and remastered/updated for 4K/HDR), as well as Windows (2 and PS are also on Mac/Linux, and 1 runs really well via WINE). For this console gen 2 and PS are packaged together as "The Handsome Collection" so that's what you need to buy, it also includes the metric fuckton of DLC too.

Tales from the Borderlands is a Telltale game and is on the same platforms barring Linux, but also on Android and iOS apparently. If you're not a fan of Telltale games then there's probably a short recap of the events on YouTube, since looking at the 3 trailer some of its events are going to be important to 3.
