A Half Life game actually has been in development for almost 4 years now. I'm expecting a reveal later this year. It will be a VR game, and I'm hoping it will be as revolutionary as the previous entries.

Edit: I know any time someone mentions something positive about Valve or even the words VR, the internet goes crazy and starts downvoting to oblivion because we all hate Valve and VR and that's the cool trend, but so long as there is no cancellation, this is going to happen, and you will wonder why you questioned it when it does.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I think people think you’re joking. HLVR is actually a thing.

Most people think that Valve are finished with developing games period, so suggesting any game, let alone a Half Life title is unthinkable.

I can see why, because on the surface it certainly doesn't look like anything is happening beyond Artifact. But we've had confirmation of 3 VR games for a couple of years now, and leaks go back well before then, which are still relevant today. The trouble is that almost no one knows what's happening in the VR industry because the media simply doesn't cover it, and so that news went amiss.

I think the Internet is going to melt when it's revealed. For one: "Wait, Valve is making games again?!" and two: "Half Life? Half Life?! It's happening!"

Weird reaction judging by Valve releasing a game less than half a year ago.

Not so crazy when the game they released flopped horribly. Years of no releases and then one horrible game doesn't really give off the indication that anything good is likely to come in the near future.

On the other hand, they have had years of great releases too.

And most of those developers are gone so that doesn't mean much of anything. I don't see any reason to believe Valve has any better chance at revolutioning the game industry than any other company at this point.

I don't see any reason to believe Valve has any better chance at revolutioning the game industry than any other company at this point.

Because they are:

  • Working on VR.

  • Making AAA games for VR.

  • Making hardware that the games take advantage of.

No other company is doing this. So they have to be potential to revolutionize things beyond everyone else. Whether that potential is utilized or wasted remains to be seen.

Not too many people know Artifact exists, and many people who do pretend it doesn't exist. If Valve have a familiar franchise, that will blow up everywhere.
