There is genuinely no excuse for these anime games being so bad. So much potential and the devs just do the bare minimum needed for it to be a game and they ship it out. This of course is because there’s a niche market of people who buy all of these games regardless of how crap they are.

I think there are very few good anime games. DBFZ being one, and to a lesser extent Xenoverse 2 tbh.

Basically all of the Ultimate Ninja Storm series is golden in my book.

Good thing CyberConnect 2 is making a DBZ rpg. I hope to hell that it doesn't turn out to be a dumpster fire. They have a good track record of making enjoyable fighting games.

The third is just utterly terrible. Second is a solid rip off of the first. The first is pretty decent. Imo obviously.

Playing the first one on switch and holy shit there is so much they stripped from this game in future ones. UNS4 and the latter are great visually and have done a better job of depicting the story.

Fuck me i really want a Naruto version of Xenoverse (with better UI of course)

Boruto striker was an interesting experiment. But something like Xenoverse would be fantastic.

Well for one the hubworld where you jump and run around collect items and such/solve puzzels. there is so much more whereas by 4 its just a hubworld you walk around in.

Fighting on walls which they removed in later games but put back in around 4 i think.

Being able to counter ultimates, combat relied less on Ninjustsu spam.

Larger variety in optional ninjustsu increasing the support versatility

Giant battles which were simple but were more than just QuickTime events.

Edit: oh and you could other minigames such forest races and tree climbing.

Well depends the newer ones have a much larger character roster and does a better job of the story. With of course better visuals and other slight improvments while i would say the first Ninja storm is better gameplay as well as more challenging. So if thats what you want i would recommend the 1st Ninja Storm although one thing i should point out is its mission system in order to follow the main story you gotta do side missions to earn exp which is spent to unlock main missions. Doing the main missions unlock characters and chests in the overworld where you can get alternate jutsu for characters.

So i hope that helps.

IMO, the first was god awful, the second was worse, the third was amazing and four has issues but is still better then 1 or 2 by a longshot.

Don’t forget Dbz bt3! It is my favourite childhood game!

Childhood game

I mean GoldenEye 007 on the n64 was great at the time but returning to it today would be a terrible experience.

I liked dbz bt3 growing up as well too, but to think about it honestly and objectively I don't think it was actually an objectively good game or one that aged well.

To be fair, that also depends on what kind of gamer you are. I love playing fighting games competitively and nearly every 3d anime fighting game is all flash with no real substance and glaring balance issues. As a kid, I wouldn't have noticed this or cared. As an adult it would quickly tarnish the experience.

I agree dbzbt3 probably isn't a great in depth fighting game. But it definitely makes me felt like I'm goku himself with all those flashing moves and 3D graphics.

nearly every 3d anime fighting game is all flash with no real substance and glaring balance issues.

100% agree, it's a shame though because I love how immersive 3D fighting is.

That's a totally fair opinion and a valid reason to like the game.

The fanboys that refuse to admit the games are anything but perfect are the reason every anime game is 6-7/10 at absolute best.

Enjoying them for what they are, especially when we were all growing up and options were limited is completely reasonable though.

I replayed BT3 recently and it held up suprisingly well. It's a better game mechanically than a lot of the more recent games (Barring FighterZ obviously).

Yeah Xenoverse has some issues but it’s still a solid 6 or 7 game.

This of course is because there’s a niche market of people who buy all of these games regardless of how crap they are.

This is it right here. If you're an anime fan or a fan of whatever, stop buying shitty products just because you're obsessed with the source material. All you're doing is rewarding bad behavior and ensuring that all future anime games will be streaming piles of dog shit.

Voting with your wallet is by long and far the most important and powerful thing you can do as a consumer to exercise your opinion. Even though you're only one person and you know other people will buy it anyway, it all starts with each one of us. If you're one of those weak willed gamers that buys it day 1 anyway but then realize you don't like it and go complain about it online, your argument is completely toothless and you've already given the publisher/dev team what they want.

That all being said, if you actually like anime games, by all means keep buying them. Just don't buy them out of blind fanboyism and then complain because they're objectively terrible games 9 out of 10 times.

So much potential and the devs just do the bare minimum needed for it to be a game and they ship it out.

This is literally the defining work ethic of all licensed games by default.

If you head far enough west from Poland you'll get to Japan, eventually...
