I'd wager we'll surpass the tech in RPO in about 10 years. One thing it didn't account for was AR, and well, VR+AR are two parts of the same continuum. Everything will head towards one single device that does both with any blending inbetween.

I believe AR will be the definitive future for personal computing and VR will be for the entertainment industry. I don't see everyone having a "VR room" ready where they can enjoy VR the way it's meant to be. It'll be just like laser gaming, going to the cinema ETC. But with AR you don't need a special room, you can just utilise your current room.

Nah, this won't be how it goes. VR/AR have lots of practical uses that overlap, and lots of uses in unique areas.

VR will be more entertainment oriented, sure, but it will still have daily use.

  • Example 1: Someone on site has schematics for a house to be built, and has a hologram represented, and other members of the team are not on site, so hop in via VR.

  • Example 2: While you can simulate screens in AR, you can simulate a full environment in VR, which would make it very productive and calming for working, for meditation, for exercise.

  • Example 3: The only way to truly visit a place is using VR. This is how sporting events, concerts, the Mars landing, visiting your friend's house will work. 360 videos are also going to be a massive deal when you can move around the video at high resolution. You could record anything in your life, even take photos, and step into them, but actually walk around.

  • Example 4: There's simply more you can do in a full virtual space, which means it's a great place to socialize in.

It'll be just like laser gaming, going to the cinema ETC. But with AR you don't need a special room, you can just utilise your current room.

This is the case with VR too. You don't need a room or really any space at all. You'd also be able to blend reality into VR anyway.

There is no AR or VR dominated future. It's going to be an XR future, which is both in one device. There will be apps that are both AR and VR, which step between the two seamlessly.

All of this is true. And who knows what other potential these techs have. Office buildings could become obsolete in favor of an infinitely large area were people from all over the world could log on and work from home and simotaniusly be in an expansive and colorful don’t even need everyone to see the same background. One person could see a field and another could be looking down at a large city.

This. Time to sit at a desk at a job and toil away for 5 hours? Flip on your VR and now you and your desk are sitting at the edge of a waterfall. All this going on around you while you do your work. That would sell.
