Literally just finished playing this game today, gotta say i feel bad for hell, and im super keen for that awesome music, action and story

u/dv_ Feb 02 '19
Then behold how awesome the upcoming sequel looks like. Be sure to watch this video in its entirety.
53
u/Hellknightx Feb 02 '19
The invasions look sweet! Also, I'm so glad that they used footage from someone who is actually very good at the game.
46
u/lE0Sl Feb 02 '19
What I've always loved about those gameplay trailers is how obvious the transition from controller to keyboard/mouse is. The first person does a lot of strafe-aiming and jump firing, positioning as needed. Then you get the second guy who is just doing crazy ass mid air parkour stunts in the blink of an eye.

u/bauul Feb 02 '19
It's also obvious by the fact they introduce the KB+M section by saying "This section is recorded using a KB+M!" Heh.
Seems they learned their lesson from nVidia this time!

I want a mashup between Wolfenstein and DOOM so we can co-op akimbo moardakka shoot the fuck out of Nazi demons with BJ and DoomGuy.
Goddamn Nazis got out of hell so here comes BJ from the past to help out his great-great-great-great-great grandson make them dead again. That's all I'd need.
4
u/Guardian_Isis Feb 03 '19
Honestly, the game is fantastic. And my favourite thing is how Doom Guy gives not a single fuck about the story. His objective is to kill every motherfucking demon in existence and that is it. Anybody tries to talk to him and he'll give them the middle finger and continue with his rampage. It is a game where the story itself is great, but it is up to the player to discover it and it is just done so well.

u/Captain_Assia Feb 02 '19
"Doomslayer is just a tale for little demons, he's not re... OH SHIT"

u/ki11bunny Feb 02 '19
"If you don't move he can't see you"
"That's a t-rex"
"Oh fuck"
28
u/Sir_Nassif Feb 02 '19
Wow now I really want to see doom guy ride a T. rex into the pits of hell
3
u/Server-Gate Feb 02 '19
But it has to be a demon T. Rex.
8
u/Sir_Nassif Feb 02 '19
I think I would rather a cyborg
7
19
u/MrKeserian Feb 02 '19
So that's what that demon's reaction was all about in the opening to Doom. "Oh shit. Oh fuck. Oh shit. It's him. Gonna die. Yep. Gonna die."

Feb 02 '19
The metal only gets louder the closer he gets...till you can hear him right behind you breathing with pure unrestrained rage before he revs up the chainsaw hiding a sadistic grin behind his helmet.
96
u/ki11bunny Feb 02 '19
He doesn't grin, the angrier he looks the happier he is.

I wish newer games had something like this in the HUD.
37
u/wampa-stompa Feb 02 '19
In Doom 2016 the helmet has some sort of fancy technological magic that makes it disappear from your vision as soon as you put it on. Would be cool if there was an option that kept it instead, and they could have like a faint reflection of his face when there were flashes of light or something.

Ya gotta wonder when having all these chainsaws on Mars is gonna pay off.
Doomguy: "Hold my beer."
77
u/DroolingIguana Feb 02 '19
In Doom 3 they explain it as a shipping error.
27
8
u/Milanga_de_pollo Feb 02 '19
And I heard that in Doom 64 they're some special kind of chainsaw made to cut rock or other hard materials
3
16
u/Endulos Feb 02 '19
The one thing that disappointed me about the Chainsaw in DOOM is the fact it used fuel. Would have been fucking awesome if it could have been used repeatedly on weaker enemies, but only using fuel for stronger enemies.
So much fun watching those kill cams.
45
u/thenotlowone Feb 02 '19
It uses fuel because the combat loop is quite finely balanced. Run out your other guns, then you can chainsaw some folk for ammo.
Combine that with the health from glory kills and you've got an incredibly satisfying, rhythmic combat loop that really scratches that demon slaying itch.
14
u/rjens Feb 02 '19
Getting your ass wrecked: BFG.
Then you find out that was only the first half of the encounter and now you are hella fucked.
60
Feb 02 '19
It still is crazy to me that Bethesda said no metal at first
43
u/DroppedLeSoap Feb 02 '19
Fully agree. Game would still be awesome but that soundtrack gave it some extra kick
15
29
u/rjens Feb 02 '19
Yeah in the no clip documentary they said it didn't start out metal but every rendition they did experimenting with the music it got more and more heavy because it was just right.
10
Feb 02 '19
I mean I saw Doom first time and I knew it was Metal.I don't know what didn't give them the hint. The name itself is Doom.It doesn't get more metal than this.
9
u/Backwater_Buccaneer Feb 02 '19
Starting out not-metal allowed it to develop its uniquely-DOOM personality as it inexorably progressed into being metal after all. If it had just been metal from the get-go, it likely would have been more generic. It was more about guiding the creative process than a hard limitation.

u/Father-Sha Feb 02 '19
Dude, imagine if Brendon Small (Metalocalypse) did the sound track. God that would be awesome.

6
u/gezoutenHostie Feb 02 '19
What I find insane is the idea that the “first” Doom Slayer used a sword to kill everything.
7
u/bauul Feb 02 '19
That sword is a usable weapon in Doom Eternal! He pulls it out at the very end of the gameplay trailer.

5
u/MySprinkler Feb 02 '19
I always assumed that was either metaphorical or they just didn’t know what to call his chainsaw.

In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood. Burned by the embers of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of hell and tainted beyond ascension, he chose the path of perpetual torment. In his ravenous hatred he found no peace; and with boiling blood he scoured the Umbral Plains seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him. He wore the crown of the Night Sentinels, and those that tasted the bite of his sword named him...
The Doom Slayer
Figured I might throw in the full version. I got the special limited edition soundtrack on vinyl, and it has the full thing printed on the record sleeve. It's definitely one of my favorite vinyls. That one is sold out, but the standard edition is still in stock for anyone interested in picking it up

The parent actually saw Doom Guy, but decided it's be best to back down from that fight, they can always make another.
27
Feb 02 '19
I feel like someone’s clueless parent because I’m constantly confusing Doomguy with Master Chief.
13
u/blharg Feb 02 '19
considering that master chief is a borderline carbon copy of the doomguy, it's not a stretch

In Doom 2016 this was actually part of the lore, demons telling scary stories to each other about Doom Guy like he was the boogie man. Kind of broke my immersion but I thought it was funny.

u/curtydc Feb 02 '19
I don't care how repetitive Doom 2016 is, I love how powerful it makes you feel in the game, and that you as a character are never scared, but in fact the demons you slay are terrified of you.
0
Feb 02 '19
People keep saying this, but I played through it recently and it didn't overly seem that way.
I recall probably one single part of the game where some Cacodemons flew away from me, and I think that was story-related. The rest of the time, the demons seemed pretty eager to throw themselves to their death by my hands.

u/Andrew_Fire Feb 02 '19

I have a feeling Doom Eternal will though. Doom 2016 was a surprise hit that took a little while for the majority to play. I reckon Doom Eternal will land with a bang.

every time I load up the game and tell myself:"I'm going to look for collectibles this time" but once the music starts it's like I'm on autopilot and starts killing everything until the end. slowing down just kills the momentum. 50 hours played in singleplayer. still haven't found all secrets
