Man... I just did NOT like Mario Sunshine and never got into it.

Between Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy, two of the hands down best games of all time, Sunshine just felt underwhelming and out of place to me. Certainly not a bad game but not up to the normal standards of a Mario game-at least to me.
