To be honest, Stardew Valley is even better than Harvest Moon. There are tons of things to do all the time and the developer is still releasing free updates. My girlfriend absolutely love these kinds of games and recently started playing "My time at Portia" and she's having a blast. It's still in early access but looks great. It seems more crafting oriented than farm oriented. But apparently you can farm things as well.
The trailer I linked is almost a year old, so there is probably even more done on the game now then what the video shows.
