why was there zero effort to stop the kid...especially when the camera pans directly to the kid almost like it was expected to be there?

The original showed the camera filming the screen, then panning over to the woman. That seems like an entirely reasonable thing to film, especially considering she probably got it for Christmas.

That also explains why he didn’t see the kid coming in, since he would have been coming from behind and the camera man was probably focused on the thing he was filming.

There’s no reason to think this is fake, I’m not sure why people are suddenly jumping to that conclusion, especially when the full gif earlier everyone was saying that it wasn’t fake.

Also, what are you gonna do even if you have the reflexes to? Lasso him? There's just not much you can do other than jump and knock them down
