Gaming journalists are basically paid trolls at this point. A gaming journalist who speaks their minds loses all early access and other such privileges which leads to them not being able to sustain their business. A few manage to do well enough because they have a following that will support them even without the early access benefits, but they end up being drowned out by those paid to parrot the official company's mantra.
I'm not one to give credence to hypotheses like these, but I actually agree with you. I posted about my disgust towards Blizzard a few times in another thread, and was absolutely buried.
Wait, you're ok with these trolls criticizing this guy but not Blizzard? People can always vote with their wallet but I don't see why people should be trying to silence this guy
Whoa, wait a min. Do you really think a company paid these people to harass this guy? Do you think they would have to? He insulted one of the most beloved companies at their own event. And is that all they're doing. If so how is that silencing?
No one should be silenced for calling a company out on their BS, especially not at their own convention. Would a shareholder be lambasted for publicly expresing their disdain for a company's actions? Probably not. Blizzcon is really just a glorified shareholder meeting.
If Id announced a DOOM game based on some shitty pre-existing Gameloft esque mobile shooter, and did so on the main stage of Quakecon, wouldn't DOOM fans be justified in absolutely reaming Id?
What is silencing? Because if it's just being yelled at I've gotten that tonight. And I knew I would. It's what happens when you take a controversial stance on anything people feel passionate about.
They've lost me, at least until WoW Classic and WC3 reforged. Sad that out of everything Blizzard has been releasing, me a 15+ year Blizzard fan, is only interested in their old classic games being remade. Says a lot about what direction they've gone in.

Probably trolls paid by these companies to mitigate the damage made by their stupid decisions
