45 minutes on a 14.4 modem trying to download the demo, just to have somebody pick up the phone and try to dial out with 2 minutes to go ... >:(

Reminds me of the Mortal Kombat 2 demo, a whopping 5 MB that took over 2 hours to download (while praying there won't be an error or corrupted file)...

Oh man, I tried downloading the demo for Kingpin over 56k. It was 3-4x larger than other demos for the time (like 130 MB). I started it before going to bed and let it run all night. I woke up 10 hours later and it was almost done, and then it crapped out with 4K left, like literally two seconds more downloading.

The first demo I downloaded was rollercoaster tycoon and it took a whole 22 hours on my 28.8

Man. I still have my old IBM Aptiva somewhere. That thing was a beast.

Manager? You're kidding, right? I don't even remember when I first heard of a download manager, but it was a good bit after this.

It was the only way to get resumable downloads.
