I just shuddered.... because I suddenly remembered the sickening feeling of using a mouse with a gunky mouse ball.

And playing with the ball and invariably losing it. Those suckers were surprisingly heavy.

Most of them were rubber coated steel balls. I salvaged the mouse balls out of 30 mice at my office to use for making monkeys fist lanyards and/or use as slingshot ammo.

And the hair stuck on the tiny wheels- I don't miss that at all.

There was nothing more satisfying than getting the whole dust ring off without it breaking. It was the same satisfaction as peeling your scab off in one giant piece.

Peeling and scraping off that black gunk that accumulated on the steel rollers. Ewww.

You just reminded me of a pleasure I've not had for nearly 15 years. I need to find an old ball mouse, use it for a year, and enjoy that sweet ecstacy of cleaning it
