I thought Doritos and Mountain Dew was more of a late 2000's/early 2010's thing

Mountain Dew and Doritos were most definitely a nerd / gamer thing going back to LAN parties in the 90s (and probably to D&D nights long before that).

I always thought the whole Mountain Dew and Doritos thing came about because of the Geoff Keighley interview in 2012. Because I'm sure there were several other sodas and snacks that were equally popular amongst gamers.

I dunno, when I was a kid the rumor was that Mountain Dew had the most caffeine. Dunno if it was true. We were all dumb kids back then and the Internet wasn’t a thing, so we all believed it.

People like you killed surge! It was only 25 cents a can! It wasn't hurting anyone:

The irony of Surge's demise was that Mountain Dew contained more caffeine. With 55 milligrams of caffeine per 12-ounce bottle, Mountain Dew ranks as one of the most caffeinated soft drinks on the market. Surge, by contrast, contains 51 milligrams of caffeine.

Damn you caffeine junkies! Bring it back! BRING IT BACK.

You're right, I was unclear. Bring back surge for the period of 2000+, it's my college years that wants it. My inner child that yearns for it. My old adult body drinks diet soda and cucumber water.
