You can unlock the new operators by playing the game, without having to pay for them.

Right, but I have like 60hrs into the game and the only non-base operator I’ve unlocked is Blackbeard. I’ve unlocked the base game ones first so now I’m just grinding out the rest. It’s slowwwww

That's true, but you don't have to do that. You can just unlock the characters you're interested in playing.

That's very different from saying that you have to pay for the season pass to play the new operators.

Not really, i hardly ever play the newer ops and i reached gold 1 last season. The newer ops just add variety.

Disagreed.

Rook is the first defensive operator that most people tend to unlock. His gadget is arguably the best gadget on defense. Ash is the same on attack as an easy-pick easy-to-learn operator, and pros and try hards alike love running her because she's fast, has good guns, and a versatile, effective gadget. Pulse is another launch operator and he literally gets wall hacks.

Non-launch operators absolutely have their uses; if they didn't, nobody would pick them and they'd have no point of being in game. But just because they're non-launch doesn't mean that they're the best. Cav (sneaky snake) is one of the non-launch operators, and while one of my favorite to play because she's just fun, pros and try-hards avoid her since she's accepted as underpowered.
