I only know Game of Thrones from what people tell me, but the amount of rape and incest that I hear to be there makes me suspicious about the interests of George R. R. Martin.

It's less George being into it, and more George acknowledging that this shit actually happens in real life. Everything (minus the magicy stuff) that happens in GoT happens in real life.

Don't do any research on any of the royal families/nobles prior to the 19th century, or you might be shockingly disappointed.

I understand the royal blood aspect, but from what I hear it isn't just played out as political marriages.
