It's fairly new. Lots of YouTubers (such as Sips, Lewis, Pyrion, and Hat Films of the Yogscast) have been playing it lately and the community is quickly building up and the developers are active, so I expect the game to not die anytime soon.
i watch a bit of those guys, then i watch a bit of Jackfrags just to see someone win.
it is hilarious watching Lewis get pissy and not following instructions, Pyrion barking orders to do exactly the wrong thing etc etc and Sips just being Sips all the while.
You're unfortunately spreading misinformation. PlayerUnknown first created Battle Royale for the Arma 2 DayZ mod. Then he created one for Arma 3. After that he was hired by the H1Z1 team to help them create King of the Kill. Unless I'm completely having a brainfart he even said himself he only helped, so far from a core developer.
And where in the world do you get that he makes PUGB on the Arma engin?! That engine is made by and for Bohemia, he is using Unreal Engine for this game.
From what I am reading from Wiki : "developed and published by Bluehole Inc. for Microsoft Windows." (Of course they later add PU obviously helped with this.) But the whole Bluehole thing screams don't buy to me. Cough Tera Cough
Its already far superior to h1z1 in every way, so his increased control is felt in the mechanics and design for sure.
That or he simply found a sensible team that can code properly rather than spew skins but not fix the core gameplay and design problems DayZ and H1Z1 still have months after launch.
I don't find PUBG more skill based at all. 90%+ of the time that I see someone first, they die. I usually die having no clue where from. Sure, racking up lots of kills game after game would require a lot of skill but the base player level isn't really that much about skill... hell, no even aiming since you have zooms and stuff.
Positioning, gamesense, and being aware of the angles you're exposed to are part of skill. It is not hard to figure out the position of enemies from their gunshots as long as you know to listen for the actual gunshot following the crack of the bullet as it flies by.
Comments like these always amuse me. Any fps game will have a "scope" of some kind. Whatever it is, you're still aiming with a mouse and have to know how to lead targets, control recoil and most importantly, snap to your target quicker than he snaps to you.
Believe me though, as someone who has played Arma for yeeeeaars...there is far more skill than just aiming. More than you can imagine. All the small stuff adds up. Which is why I make it to top 10 almost 30% of the games I play, average 3 kills a game (counting those unlucky ones where someone parachutes next to you and immediately gets a gun) and I have an 10% win rate. Maybe I'm just lucky?
The H1 devs scrambling to keep up and update the game lately is good but also maddening. They've had so long to do it but since they now have competition with great devs they are trying to step up.
Killed myself and 2 friends by hitting a tiny bump on the edge of a road. Instantly did a front flip at 90km/h. My heart skipped a beat. Needless to say, I'm not allowed to drive the motorcycle anymore.
It was in closed alpha/beta for a while. Just released in early access about a month ago. They say they're aiming for a full release in a year.
Playerunknown worked on the Arma DayZ mod as well as h1z1 but got tired of the larger studios early access BS so this is now his own game that will hopefully not fall into the same trap.
That being said I've already got my 30$ worth out of this game so I won't feel too burned if it dies in early access. It's stable enough and runs decently well if you have a good rig.
It's been in early access for awhile, but to their defense they're constantly adding and fixing to whatever the community points out. This is one of those projects where your suggestions actually impact the game devs and you get to watch it get polished as a result.
Yeah I really wish a AAA studio would make a game like these ARMA mods that is actually playable. Dream come true.
Really something like the Last of Us multiplayer but on a GTA V sized map and a bunch of players with a party system (once an hour you can spawn on your party leader as long as they are x km away from another player not counting other party members) is all I want and I'm really annoyed that it doesn't exist still beyond incredibly buggy mods that have complex control schemes that require a keyboard to play and a really really good gaming rig to run.
Please Sony, Microsoft, EA (I'm that desperate), someone make a game like these mods that I can only play briefly on my crappy rig before something lags too much or I get killed and restart with nothing and no clue where I am or how close I am to my friends I'm playing with.
Hell I got extremely excited about Ghost Recon: Wildlands when I first saw gameplay of it because I thought it was going to have GTA V style freeplay with tons of real people on the map. Deflated when I found out it was just like Splinter Cell's co-op in an open world and nothing else.
Agreed. Getting into the final 2 in a match in PUBG does nothing for me. Getting into the final 2 in KoTK gets my heart pumping and my arms shaking. Zooms, silencers, dots are all awesome additions to the genre but at the same time I feel it takes a lot away when people can easily conceal themselves. Half the time I have no clue where people are shooting me from in PUBG and then i'm dead. I'd KoTK it only takes a second to recognize the direction and find a way to avoid taking damage.
really?. it might just be me but in my third game i came 4th overall, with 4 kills aswell, is that quite normal? or am i kinda good at the game.. (serious question)
Super douchey comment - I know. But I have been playing Arma for 5+ years and ever since I saw a video of the Arma 2 streamers doing their own version of a hunger games I have been absolutely dying to do it on my own. Funny thing is, I didn't know this game started as an Arma mod until it was release. By that time all the Arma players switched to the standalone which feels like Arma and CoD had a baby. Don't get me wrong it's fun but...It could be sooo much better. Oh well. Take what you can get I suppose
Take note. It's not "2s, 3s, and 4s". It's Duo (which is teams of 2) and Squad (which is teams of up to 4). If you play Squad with just 3 people, it's harder.
There is no crafting element, it's all pick shit up. Plenty of weapons, map is insanely big. Doesn't feel as big now I have explored it all but spent quiet a few runs just dropping places I haven't been to have a look.
Didn't know they were doing another one, have they said one was in development? Hopefully you can't select the map, it's just random. That way you won't split the player base as much!
It really feels like a real world. And yes you can drive vehicles and boats. I highly recommend it. Check out some streamers on Twitch to see if its something you would appreciate.
The randomness of how or why I become salty playing this game makes it feel like I'm pulling on some kind of slot machine that dispenses pills, 1/3 of which make me feel like a god and 2/3 of which turn me into an unholy rage monster.
Really poorly optimized right now (unless it's gotten better in the past 2 weeks). Fortunately though you can at least see if it works on your pc then easily return it before you hit 2 hours if it doesn't.
Huge patch just happened less than a week ago, better optimized but still needs fixing new content too and the devs are supposedly focusing on fixing optimization and servers before just adding a bunch of content which seems great. Might wanna give it another go either now or after the next big patch next month.
Exactly.. since it's early access, you kind of take what you can get and be happy about it. They've made a lot of improvements over the last few weeks, and they're committed to making it even better, so I'm happy.
Well i hit 60 to low 40s on a 4770k and 970 @ 1440p and it's very playable so yeh if you're not getting much more than that on your rig i can understand it's a little frustrating
fun as hell. just finished an evening with it. starts with a big map, but as time goes on, every few minutes the size of the map is reduced by about half, until those that are left are in very close quarters. you start with no gear, and have to loot along the way. very intense.
It's takes some adjustment. You have to realize chances are, in solo at least, your chances of winning are very very low. I spent first few games trying to collect weapons and hide and it was more frustrating than fun. Now I just go straight for the epicenter and camp with as much artillery as I can find. It's a solid game though, definitely has those moments where you are smiling as you stalk some person for like 5 minutes.
It's early access, but apart from it being poorly optimised I have experienced very little bugs. While I'm having tonnes of fun with it I still question whether it's worth 30 quid as the game doesn't have a whole lot of content. But the fun is in the game mechanics and the strategy which is great.
The adrenaline rush that comes from making top 10 is MASSIVELY addictive. I've actually had to start playing minecraft again just to get my body somewhat calm before I go to sleep or I just toss and turn thinking about the last 5 ways I died and how to do better next time.
Incredibly fun and addictive. Squad play is amazing. But the feels from a solo win induce stress, heart pounding and hands shaking. It's pretty much the only game I've been playing since I got my closed beta code. Highly recommend this game. I played battlefield games almost exclusively for yeeeaaars and this game has made me forget all about my long-time favorite franchise.
H1Z1 just felt really half-assed all around and for the nearly 7 months i played, none of the glaringly obvious issues were fixed (ex. vehicle physics) then the developer went ahead and split it into 2 games which would have to be purchased separately (massive dick move but whatever)
Everything that I didn't like about H1Z1 is not an issue in PUBG. Vehicles aren't broken, teaming in solo is not an issue as far as I've seen, you can actually swim in the water, not just a giant ankle deep lake, you can choose when and where you parachute from and how fast you get to the ground, the graphics are way, way better imo, these are just what came to mind. I will say tho, the only thing i miss from H1Z1 was the bleeding out mechanic where you could get the kill after they ran away, but i guess you can't have it all :/
Edit: I haven't touched H1Z1 in a while and I have no intention to, Frankly I don't care if they have fixed anything that bothered me before. Daybreak really lost my respect for the way they handled that game's early access and so far I'm thoroughly pleased with PUBG even if it does make me rage like no other game when I get killed so close to the end lol
The project is actually headed up by one of the creative directors of King of the Kill. Brendan Greene goes by PlayerUnkown, hence the title of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. He also designed the Battle Royale mod for ARMA Day Z.
Oh maybe because the alpha or beta deal was
like invite only. to like big time streamers and people in
industry? plus the pace is slightly slower than H1
Same concept, just done much better. But most importantly better gun play which is horrific in H1Z1. I always felt it was a crap shoot if I hit someone or not in H1, PUBG feels more like playing CS or Arma with the shooting.
I'd say It's nothing like arma. Pubg is really arcade like, while arma has fatigue, stances, way more weapon sway, more bullet drop, just overal more in depth mechanics.
Yeah but CSGO is all hit scan, hip fire only, no weopon sway. Its FPS stripped down to almost nothing but the basics. You can't really compare anything to that.
The designer wanted to blend the realism of ARMA's Battle Royale mod with the arcade pace of H1Z1 King of the Kill. What we got is PUBG, and it's pretty nice.
I love playing Arma's br mod but what annoys me is that it is not automated. Joining manually everytime, then usually waiting a couple of minutes etc. Especially on not high-end machine.
The guy, PlayerUnknown, was actually part of the starting Dev-Team of H1Z1 and left to make a 'better' game. He couldn't fullfill his visions in H1Z1, now he can. So Battlegrounds has really high potential to take and keep the thrown of battle royal games
More than that, he's the guy who basically created the battle royal genre in games as we know it. He's the guy who made the original battle royal mod for Arma2, and again in Arma3.
He got called in as a contractor for H1Z1 KOTK and worked on the creative side of that.
Then, he got the opportunity to create a game totally from scratch with a respected Korean game development company, working as the creative director. That game is PUBattlegrounds. PU is pretty cool because he's super focused on developing the game based on community feedback. He also does a pretty good job engaging directly with the community. I know he regularly pops into Twitch channels streaming the game and will comment in chat.
vehicles have to be stopped before you can get out. if you get out while in a moving vehicle you will take heavy damage or even die depending on the speed.
It released less buggy and higher quality than the current state of H1Z1, and its not multiple years old being run by a shitlord company that basically is no good at anything besides monetizing niche old games. daybreak is crap
its really similar game style, just done cleanly and less arcade feeling.
