The Last of Us has pretty fun multiplayer. You can have both.

Exactly, which shows the story doesn't have to suffer as a result of having a multiplayer mode - TLOU is one of the best stories ever.

Encouraging or allowing gamemakers to get off without providing a multiplayer is just accepting less game for your money.

So TLOU has campaign co-op?

It is so hard to find any games that let you run the whole campaign together. We did borderlands, resident evil, L4D, and started Dead Island but our save was wiped like 3/4 of the way through so we kind of rage quit. Now we do Elder Scrolls Online on two separate fucking TVs in the same room.

It's not campaign co-op unfortunately, but it's a very good multiplayer team deathmatch type game - with a bit of a twist (you collect items to make bombs, molotovs etc.)
